Hook-billed Kite (Chondrohierax uncinatus), family Accipitridae, order Accipitriformes, Ecuador

  • This raptor uses its hook shaped beak to remove and feed on terrestrial snails.
  • HBKs have slightly different shaped bills throughout their range, depending on the species of terrestrial/arboreal snails available (which have shells that are different shapes, and have different depths).
  • Found in South TX, Mexico, Central and South America.
