I expected Joker: Folie à Deux to have the predictable ending suggested by the trailers with Arthur and Lee taking over the city in the adoration of the crowds. But instead, it’s a film that leaves you empty.

In a society constantly craving entertainment, explosions and passion, the movie forces us to confront a harder truth: no one really cares about people or mental illness; it’s all about the spectacle. Like Arthur said in the first movie: “Nobody thinks what it’s like to be the other guy.”

Everything was just a fantasy.

Lee was caught up in the fantasy of having a relationship with the Joker, but when that fantasy became real, she couldn’t handle it anymore.

The Joker isn’t a hero; he’s just a man struggling to find his place in the world.
