Every time someone mentions H.G. Wells I have to readjust to his pronouns because I accidentally internalised the canon of a 00s Syfy show where he's secretly a woman.

He doesn't come up often enough that it stops happening, and I fear one day I'll need to discuss him and slip up. I'll pull my classic did you know move but it'll be "facts" from a long dead TV show about cursed objects.

She’s always been a pragmatist, where Mae was more of a skeptic—and yes, pragmatism and skepticism are opposites, as Jamie learned the hard way whenever she heard the two of them argue. A pragmatist is up for whatever works, but a skeptic wants things to make sense and have a reasonable explanation, even if that leads to nothing but trial and frustrating error.

Amazing news! The first two chapters of my upcoming novel Lessons in Magic and Disaster are up at Uncanny Magazine. They form a complete self contained story about how Jamie teaches her mother magic and runs into a problem that she needs to solve.

"Back when I was alive, I think there was a question mark between my legs — but it could have been an exclamation point. Those were the two kinds you could have. The question mark went inside the exclamation point, as if to signify that every statement must have a query deep within."

This Saturday: TRANS NERD MEET UP!

It's just what it sounds like. If you are gender non-conforming and like to geek out, you are welcome. @zeitgeist_sf from 12:30 until whenever. Please forgive the terrible flier I made! <3

It's time to quit singing "Happy Birthday" when you wash your hands. Instead, chant like an early 80s rapper:

"Wave your hands in the sink!

And wash 'em till you just can't think!

And when they're good and super clean,

Go out and get a drink!"

Also: When I say hand you say soap also works.

I'm catching up on Severance and my main thought thus far is that I wonder if dentists hate watching people brush their teeth on television.

I picture dentists watching the tooth-brushing scene and yelling "Brush away from the gums! AWAY! You're doing it wrong!"

Haven't seen anyone else post this variant, so I may as well. FYI, no, this isn't Marvel saying Black Cat is trans, just that she and Jessie Drake hooked up.
