i meant to post about this a while ago but never got around to it, but a few months ago i noticed a line in shounen brave that was misinterpreted in the kagepro wiki translation (and thus the jubyphonic translyrics too) - not that shounen brave is the most popular song or anything but i thought it was an interesting line so a surprise that i'd never known the meaning. it's this part of the final verse:
it's a pretty small thing and due to a tricky use of a subject in japanese. but in the fan translation, that "平凡" (plain, ordinary, boring - notably another time that word's used in kagepro is in the first line of headphone actor when takane's describing how it was "just another ordinary day") was applied to the verb - "moving forward, as i do every other day". but really, it was supposed to be applied to the subject. the thing that seto is calling "ordinary" here is himself - which means that what seto's saying here is
"The days keep moving forward, and I'm, as usual, plain old me."
which i especially believe is the case bc of how it contrasts with the adjective used on "me" in the second verse -
他人の心理を結び取れる 面妖な僕を誰もが嫌った
"Stealing people's thoughts - everyone hated strange, weird me"
- as well as how in both the mv and the anime, it's seto who calls himself a monster leading ayano to say "red is the color of a hero" - i mean, i don't need to point out how badly seto thought of himself for his ability, we all know - but he's really often seen speaking negatively + upset about himself. i can't believe i'd never noticed that his solo song ends with him remarking that he's normal. completely ordinary
there are like 500000 things you can say about other the uses of "normal" in kagepro (in this case probably the most relevant being kido lamenting how she can't do "normal things" as a kid but abandoning that wording as an adult, and marry drawing a contrast between the "simple" world and the "complicated, strange" her) but in contrast to those because the word being used here is "平凡", which carries the nuance of "boring", and not "普通" which is straightforwardly "normal", i think the nuance of the line is less "thank god i'm normal" and "i'm finding comfort in that i'm no spectacle, no monster, just me"
