Cimarra Skylark

@cimarraskylark

Warrior of Light, Summoner, and Big Sister, saving the world (again) 🦋 Crystal/Zalera 🦋 vanilla gposer🦋 writer 🦋 18+ 🦋 FFXIV 🦋 Mix of AU and Canon

Hello! I've decided to move here, bringing my beloved OCs with me, to have another place to go and share things with everyone. 😊 Allow me to introduce Cimarra! I hope to share pics, quotes, character lore, etc. here as I play and write her story. 📖✍️ She came to me when I really needed a friend, so she is very dear to me and I hope you all grow to like her and her little brother, Hadrian, too. 🥰🐇

(Please have patience with me while figuring things out, as it's my first time here. 😊)

Is your OC diurnal or nocturnal? (from @tsukinoxiv)

Avatar

Well, Cimarra definitely isn't a morning person, so I would have to say she's kinda both diurnal and nocturnal, depending on a given day. Not having the easiest time sleeping can often keep her up at night, while she prefers the afternoon and later half of the day to being up early in the morning. 😅🤣

Hadrian is probably more diurnal, being quite the bouncy energetic bun in the mornings.... *offers Cimarra another cup of tea upon seeing him awaken her early, glancing at her pinned back ears* >.>

Thank you so much for asking! 🥰💕

Prompt #20: Hamper

Blinking awake, Cimarra drowsily tried to get up, only to find herself hampered by a certain Elezen, whose arms were wrapped around her waist. She made one groaning attempt, then gave up on any further thoughts of escape. Instead, she burrowed back under the blankets, where a slumbering Aymeric happily pulled her closer.

When she distinctly felt a fluffy feline settle behind her back, Cimarra knew her fate was sealed.

It seemed she would not be leaving the bed for some time yet...

Oh well. It was warmer here anyway.

A snippet from the next in-progress chapter of Cimarra's story to tide the curious over. 🥰🤭

As Cimarra stared out at the hot and sandy deserts of Thanalan, reluctance and aversion seemed to emanate from her very being. Despite how she herself didn’t seem to notice it. Even her faint frown showed distaste as she squinted against the sun. “Well now, is there something wrong?” “Not a word out of you,” Cimarra quietly snapped. “I hate to say this, Cimarra... But you look akin to a fish out of water.” Cimarra’s expression darkened at the amusement in Oberon’s voice. The temptation to throw a hungry Wixomem at him was strong. Oberon’s tall red Draught Chocobo gave a chirp beside them, standing patiently at his rider’s side. Oberon swung up into the leather saddle. With the reins held steadily in one hand, he extended the other to Cimarra. Sighing, she accepted the help and gracefully situated herself in the seat behind him.  Riding to the Copperbell Mines would be preferable to walking all the way there in the dry desert heat.

The elder sister who gave into the waves...

The Warrior of Light whose mantle grew too heavy...

The little sister who took up the mantle in her memory...

The moody Elezen Sage who wished only to wander and adventure...

The Elezen Black Mage, gentle and calm despite the storms she commands...

The Bard who grieved the loss of his sister…and rejoiced at her return...

Their stories will be told in the Tales of Moon and Shadow...

Hello! I'm sorry if this question was asked already, but is it stated anywhere in the lore 'what' aether is actually capable of healing? To be more specific, do healing spells mend ALL wounds or just surface wounds? Can they mend broken bones? A punctured lung? Are all diseases able to be removed by things like Leeches and Esuna? Any and all information is appreciated, thank you in advance!

Healing Lore

Limitations of Healing Magicks

I think Coultenet sums it up best. A healer can only do so much, and much of what a healer can do depends on the healer. However, there seem to be a few general rules:

  1. Restorative magicks (such as Cure or Physick) mend physical wounds, knit flesh, close cuts.
  2. Spells like Esuna or Leeches cleanse humours, remove ailments, and can treat the root cause of symptoms.
  3. More severe injuries and maladies require long-term, often non-magical, care. A healer can only heal for so long.
  4. Some injuries cannot be healed. Some conditions are terminal. The dead cannot be restored to true life.

I included lore for certain White Magic spells below and further down I also briefly covered a Scholar’s and Faerie’s ability to cleanse ailments and diseases. I make specific mention of these two jobs because their abilities appear to transcend well beyond the capabilities of any modern magical or non-magical healing methods available to the vast majority of Eorzea’s population. Given the rarity of these two jobs in lore, it’s not surprising that their ability to more quickly, if not instantly, mend most wounds is nothing short of miraculous, as Rakusa Farusa puts it.

Coultenet: “Even when casting the same incantation, the mastery of each practitioner greatly affects the efficacy of the spell - a principle that was aptly demonstrated to our two young mages here.”
Rakusa Farusa: “Traditional restorative magicks may treat the symptoms, but not the underlying cause. To balance their humours, you must leech the impurities from their bodies.”
4gamer Oda-san Interview 2021: “How effective are healers at healing injuries? Since the main story discussed a character’s injuries recently, can you tell us more about medicine in Eorzea? Also, what is the extent of a healer’s ability to heal an injury?”Oda: “There are various schools of healing magic, such as white magic, and conjury. but all are methods of ‘healing’ and purification by redirecting aether to replenish life force and bolster the target’s natural healing capabilities. This means that magic will not work on targets whose lifeforce is depleted and cannot be replenished, or is suffering from a disease that will not heal naturally. Symptoms like these are treated by using alchemical concoctions, which are the equivalent of real-life medicines, and surgical treatments like sutures and amputation.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea III - Sage History: “Whilst conjury and similar arts rely on simple enhancement of the body’s inherent regenerative capacities to heal or cleanse, true to its roots, the somanoutic approach has more in common with the more targeted applications of traditional medicine. Only after close examination and analysis of the patient’s physiology will the sage apply their art, using their aetherological expertise to stimulate the precise constituent energies that will promote rapid recovery.”
Alphinaud: “It’s no good… The wound is too deep. It refuses to mend…”
Lucia: “The chirurgeons are doing what they can for her, but she may not live through the night.”
Krile: “Now, we’ve staunched the bleeding, but it may be a while before you can move about again. Though, having seen your wounds, I’m surprised you were still moving at all…”
Y’shtola: “Tataru, Krile - I leave the care of our injured messenger to you. See that she remains quiescent and her wounds closed.”
Krile: “You’re worried about [her], aren’t you? It’s too early to make any kind of prognosis, but…she’s alive. For now.”
Krile: “The worst has passed, but without the proper facilities I can do no more.”
Raubahn: “See to the wounded, Sounsyy. If they live, help them. If not, move on.“
Wiscar: “He was already cold when I got to him… There was naught I could do.”
Astidien: “This has taxed the infirmary beyond all natural limits, and the healers show signs of becoming patients.”
Serpent Officer: “Grim though it is, the conjurers have had no choice but to impose a rigid triage system when treating the wounded. Under the circumstances, we have to be realistic.”
E-Sumi-Yan: “For the art of mending, we draw on the boundless life force of nature and bestow it upon the wounded. Sylphie has never sought to borrow from that bounty. Her power to heal stems from her own life force. The vital energies of mortals are, however, finite…and now that which I most feared has come to pass. Her mother unwittingly took her own life through the continued use of her healing skills.”

Healing Spells

Encyclopedia Eorzea - Benediction: “The beneficiary of this spell is instantaneously cured of all wounds. Rather than exhaust the caster’s own mana, Benediction gathers ambient aether and releases it in a single, concentrated burst of healing.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea - Asylum: “Drawing upon ambient aether, this spell weaves a shimmering dome of restorative power within which even the most grievous of injuries will knit and heal. It is said that A-Towa-Cant developed the technique during his pilgrimage to provide swift succor to large groups of wounded.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea - Adloquium: “The scholar’s standard-issue healing spell. As well as closing wounds, Adloquium was designed to grant a secondary effect: a temporary arcane shield that helped protect frontline marines from further injury.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea - Leeches: “This spell cleanses the recipient of deleterious effects. According to the histories of Nym, it was devised to counter the insidious, debilitating magicks favored by the black mages of Mhach.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea - Benefic: “Astrologians channel healing energies by attuning their aether to the ‘benefic’ bodies in the heavens. Paired with an affinity for ‘malefic’ bodies to effect destructive magicks, this attunement represents the fundamental principle of astromancy.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea - Astral Stasis: “By throwing wide the gate to the seventh heaven - the highest of astral domains - the astrologian favors the battlefield with celestial benediction. This technique is said to hold the power to skew one’s fate towards an almost certain victory.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea III - Techne Makre: “By drawing upon life-giving aether currents both above and below, the sage unleashes a helical burst of aether, spreading a vast curative field across the surrounding area. This powerful technique’s name invites one to recall the aphorism, ‘Life is ephemeral; art’s path, eternal.’”
Encyclopedia Eorzea III - Diagnosis: “The first technique invented in the field of somanoutics. The sage enlivens the flow of a patient’s aether, raising the entire body’s innate capacity to heal while simultaneously diagnosing those areas less responsive to the treatment.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea III - Pneuma: “The sage wields this technique as both sword and shield, depleting their enemy’s aether while simultaneously redistributing it to allies─a feat that requires a masterful understanding of corporeal aether and the manipulation thereof.”

Raise, Resurrection, Ascend Spells in Lore

In lore, a complete resurrection of both body and soul has been shown by and large to be impossible with only one notable exception (Xande). What then is Raise? Based on what we know, we can look at raise and similar magicks in one of a couple ways: 1) It restores consciousness to the unconscious. This would coincide with the Weakness and Brink of Death statuses risen allies are afflicted with. 2) Raise and similar spells are comparable to Cardioversion in real life, the magical equivalent to putting the pads on someone and shocking their heart back to a life-supporting rhythm.

Encyclopedia Eorzea III - Egeiro (Raise): “To excute this resuscitation technique, the sage deploys an array of evenly spaced nouliths through which to calibrate the appropriate aetherial waveform. This is then projected onto the patient, jolting them back to consciousness.”
Nicia: “Normally, when one’s body is reduced to aether, it will naturally gravitate to the location with which it resonates the greatest - or one’s ‘home point.’ This is why upon losing consciousness in battle, many wake to find themselves back at an aetheryte. In other words, aetheryte act as lodestones, assuring that the body, in its aetherial form, is not lost to the pull of the greater flow.”
Sylphie: “I have all the knowledge I need! My mother never needed to ‘embrace nature’ to heal. And the people she helped were thankful for her art! I’ll learn conjury the same way she did, and become just as great a conjurer, you’ll see. But I didn’t come here to argue with you, Brother E-Sumi. I wanted to tell you that I’ve discovered how to cast Raise!”
E-Sumi-Yan: “How─ What were you thinking, girl!? You know not what you do─what you risk! You are meddling with forces beyond your comprehension! Should you even attempt to use that spell, I will have no recourse but to strip you of the name of ‘conjurer’ and banish you from our halls! Do I make myself clear?
It is a rare and wondrous talent to heal without relying on the energies of nature. But such power is not born of true conjury. By all that we know of the art, it should not be possible for Sylphie to cast Raise. I shudder to think what would happen if she tried.”
E-Sumi-Yan: “In mastering healing and purification, not only will you be able to mend wounds and purge afflictions─you will also be able to breathe life back into the fallen.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea - Pulse of Life: “Drawing upon the aetherial reserves of every ally present, this potent incantation blossoms outwards from the white mage in scintillating cloud of healing energies. The spell channels pure life force from the caster, reviving and restoring even those who have succumbed to fatal injury.”
Encyclopedia Eorzea - Angel Feathers: “ ‘The faerie spread her angelic wings, and a shimmering light exploded over the battlefield. As it washed over me, I felt my pain subside, and where I had thought myself fatally broken, I was whole again.’
-Anonymous adventurer describing the healing power of a scholar’s faerie companion.”
