a war and a genocide are different kinds of violence. a war is a fight between countries or groups, usually with soldiers targeting each other. genocide, however, is when a specific group of people is targeted and killed because of their race, religion, or ethnicity, with the goal of wiping them out. what's happening in palestine is being called a genocide because of the mass killings, forced displacement, and ongoing suffering of palestinians. it's a terrible situation, with thousands of people dying every day, yet many aren't speaking up about it. please educate yourself on what genocide is.

a war and a genocide are two fundamentally different things, and calling what is happening in palestine a "war" is not only misleading but dangerously dismissive of the reality on the ground. a war suggests two relatively equal sides engaging in military conflict, but there is no equality in power, weaponry, or control between israel and palestine. genocide, as defined by the united nations, is “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group.” . what is happening in gaza and across palestine is not a war, it is a genocide. the israeli government has imposed a brutal siege on gaza, cutting off food, water, medical supplies, and electricity to over 2 million people, more than half of whom are children. thousands of civilians have been bombed, with entire families wiped out in an instant. hospitals, schools, places of worship, refugee camps, and even designated “safe zones” have been deliberately targeted and destroyed. multiple israeli officials and military leaders have openly spoken about their goal of erasing palestinians, with dehumanizing rhetoric such as calling them “human animals” and advocating for their total displacement or extermination. genocide is not just about the number of people killed; it is about the intent to destroy a people, their identity, and their existence. calling it a "war" erases the reality of mass murder, forced displacement, and ethnic cleansing. free palestine 🇵🇸
