I like corn and live-blogging. Multi fandom blog @sapphiccorn on Twitter/CornLover24 on AO3

I may have written another Descendants fic…it may or may not be coming out tomorrow. We’ll see how busy I am and if I like it after I’ve slept on it

I had a flu travel into my chest muscles a few months ago and ever since if I lay down a certain way my chest vibrates in a weird way when I breathe

Gekiranger Final Thoughts

I just finished Gekiranger, my second Sentai season, and here are my closing thoughts:

  • Magiranger (my first Sentai) was leagues better with tighter storytelling and a better focus on all of the characters, so that is where I am drawing my comparisons from
  • The heroes in Gekiranger were either annoying (Jan and Ken) or bland (Ran and Retsu).
  • Gou was my favorite member of the team, and I loved his relationship with Leo
  • Leo and Mele were my favorite characters, Mele especially. I loved their dynamic.
  • Overall the villains were my favorite part, and the reveal with Long was amazing.
  • While I wasn't a fan of the show, the last six episodes were really good and I wish the series had that quality though out it.
  • Ran being the leader was a really interesting idea that I wish was explored more. She was randomly assigned as leader and we didn't really see how that affected her character. We don't see her have to make any tough decisions.
  • Ran's leadership also gets forgotten about since her and Retsu blend together so much. They are basically the same character except Ran is more on the extroverted side and Retsu is more introverted.
  • I hated that elephant. He was just used for misogynistic jokes.
  • Sharkie Chan is amazing and I would die for him.
  • This season had a heavy red ranger focus, which I could have tolerated if Jan wasn't so annoying. He was basically a child (which I understand why but still) until the last arc. I think there could have been ways to handle his character and still make him tolerable.
  • I also didn't understand why there was a whole Beast Fist corporation? How was that established and how do they make money? I wish we had gotten an episode exploring that instead of the fucking motherhood episode.
  • The mothering episode had to be one of the worst episodes of television I've had to sit through. It was so patriarchal and stupid and not in a fun way.
  • Somebody on Twitter called Dorinki "Drinky" and it's stuck with me
  • Loved the crossover movie, I might have to check out Bokenger
  • The final mecha was really underwhelming
  • Overall, I didn't really enjoy it and just finished it to say I did.

It is once again time to ask why the Solars didn’t get an unlimited book but Hyperforce did when ultimately, none of the Hyperforce stuff WENT ANYWHERE

It's hard not to see it as author favoritism because truly if you cut out Hyperforce's book from your reading order entirely you genuinely don't miss anything. The Hyperforce team showing up with other Rangers and Chloe's dad being with Dark Specter is explained fine in the actual series without needing to dedicate an entire book about it, especially when they're characters not relevant to the actual MMPRs at all; versus how getting an update on the Coinless World after Drakkon New Dawn, how Drakkon got new powers and how he's working with people who hate him, and building up Ranger Slayer and Drakkon's relationship before their confrontation in #116 WAS important enough for its own book. Much like how getting an update on the Void, introducing the new Solars, building up their relationships before their corruption, and sowing the seeds for the Zeo Crystal Planet's importance in the climax was ALSO important enough for its own book. Hyperforce splitting up and the reunion via "hey, remember when that episode happened?" was not. (If Santa Ranger came in to fight Dark Specter I would have instantly taken back all of my criticisms.)

You can tell they were TRYING to do something with building up Chloe and her dad, but as we've said, it's never actually relevant in the event outside of them taking up space in the finale for a few-page fight that again, is not relevant to anyone else, and we get no resolution for the mystery of her mother still being alive, so lmao.

As somebody who loves Hyperforce, and mainly Chloe, the ending was super disappointing. They should have just gotten their own book instead of being forced into the event after a one-shot.

The stuff with Chloe’s mom went literally nowhere and we didn’t even see her fully beat her dad. It was so sad to see the characters wasted and once again not able to get the ending they deserve

I don’t blame Chloe Ashford for going bad because honestly if me and my teammate both joined Time Force to fight our lost family and my teammate not only found his family but they were also a Ranger while my lost family turned out to be the bad guy, I’d go ballistic. I mean how could you even face them knowing they were able to get exactly what you wanted but can never have?

I'm heavily debating if I should just move to Canada or Europe after I graduate next year

A few weeks ago I ran out of my antidepressants and I thought to myself: "let's see how long I can go without antidepressants" because I like challenging myself and I like doing difficult things

I cannot stress how bad this idea was. please do not be like me. I have gained nothing from this experience, I don't know what I was thinking I would gain. there is no glory in suffering

I should go take my meds

I think it might have been because of the depression

I did this and I ended up in a week-and-a-half long manic episode where I wrote 30k words of fanfic within a week and got 1-3 hours of sleep a night.
