Signs - A Joel Miller Drabble

Pairing: Joel Miller x f!reader Rating: E although it's pretty tame today. Mostly just language and mention of sex. Word Count: 983 a/n: I was gone last week but I'm back this week! I really wanted to put a pause on the heavy smut for this week so this is a little more prose-filled than normal, but enjoy Domestic Joel! There is also a personal head-cannon about Sarah's mom in this, just an FYI. Written for TLOU Sundays!

Joel Miller has been a fixture in your life for nearly as long as the cordyceps, and you've spent just as long delicately planning your steps so as not to disturb either. Avoiding the infected was easy, your movement around the veins of the outbreak etched into the earth practiced and natural after twenty years. But Joel? He was a different story.

And by all means, it was never supposed to happen anyway. He was never supposed to happen to you and you were never supposed to happen to him, the years separating you combined with the chaos of the world standing as reason enough to never land in his bed. But you didn't have control over the cordyceps or the way it consumed the life you knew, the same way you didn't have control over the gravity that kept you by his side.
