If you went to baby school in the UK, please give this a quick read!

Heyyyy, hearing some genuinely horrific childhood stories from a close friend of mine, so uh. shot in the dark, if you went to school in the United Kingdom: did you ever participate in a magician trick where the selected children were Vanished, and never came back? and i mean NEVER came back, the parents picked them up after the trick, they left the school immediately after, if you lived next door to them they weren't home anymore. Parents very clearly sticking to the Bit and helping to "vanish" the child. The adults refusing to tell anyone where they went is very much part of the bit. This would have taken place around reception/nursery to year 1/primary. if you were, please hmu! you don't have to ruin the trick, I just need to know how common this is and whether or not any of the vanished kids are okay. apparently the only staff members who were there at the time that she still has contact with are STILL refusing to tell her what happened, and that's. deeply concerning to me??? the specific incident was in Corby, but i'm wondering if it occurred anywhere else.

really not sure when it happened or why but personally I'm pissed that the queer community at large seems to have given up ground on the "people with penises/vulvas/testes/ovaries" language to sex & gender essentialists in exchange for the much less precise, much more demeaning "AGAB" language.

is it because you're scared of the word vulva? of acknowledging out loud that some people have penises? of recognising that many many people, including but certainly not limited to trans people, have mixed sex characteristics that cannot be accurately summarised by "afab/amab" as shorthand for "female/male"?

"in [GENITAL RELATED] situation AFABs will need to do X and AMABs will need to do Y" there are "afabs" with penises and "amabs" with vulvas. Saying this shit makes you look so unserious & honestly transphobic (given the ongoing erasure of post-op trans people within broader community). Intersex people and GRS have both existed for long enough (fucking forever and, decades, respectively) that we should well past making this basic fucking mistake.

quit referring to people by a vague & often violent event that happened at their birth as though it defines ANYTHING about how they & their body currently operate, and start using precise language so you at least look like you know what you're fucking talking about.

gentle reminder that "AFAB woman" does not always mean "perfectly cis woman". sometimes your experience growing up looks a lot more like a trans person's because there's "something wrong with you". sometimes you spend your whole life fighting for medication, fighting for bottom surgery, fighting to get documents corrected, getting kicked out of spaces that are supposed to be safe for you, getting attacked because you were "obviously a tranny", getting put through the same god damn wringer as every trans person in the room. also, not for nothing, but sometimes you're Assigned Female At Birth and you have what most people would call a dick. and that effects your life in a number of ways that most vagina-having people simply don't go through. the white stripe on the trans flag explicitly includes "those who are intersexed", as stated by its creator. if you see someone who is an "afab trans woman", and you're initially confused by that, consider for a moment that they would not be saying that if they haven't thought about it a good deal and compared their experiences very seriously. if you assume it's just some perisex cis lady trying to be a part of something... you're basically accusing them of being a "transtrender".

I'd also like to point out that the terms AFAB and AMAB were originally CREATED BY INTERSEX PEOPLE to describe how people GET FORCIBLY ASSIGNED, it originally had NOTHING to do with what kind of genital presentation or hormone balancing or typical expectation someone had. I'm disappointed we lost that in favor of re-defining them to mean "typically expected sex traits".

You're absolutely right in that AFAB people can have what most people would call a dick, and it's the same vice versa, too. More people need to remember that.
