i think when it comes to knowledge gaps (especially on tumblr) its easy to get insecure about not knowing everything. but the real secret is that you can get away with not knowing everything if you just dont insert yourself into conversations you dont understand with blind confidence. the internet also gives you the privilege of 1) googling/wikipediaing shit before you say it, and 2) not volunteering how little you know. you dont actually have to enter the conversation just to say how little you know. part of the stereotype of dipshit stupid american on here is that americans will say full chestedly that they dont know which continent tchad is in and then go out of their way to justify it with their lack of education. when no one asked them to say either thing. and even if someone did ask, you are never under any obligation to actually answer.

An almost perfect example of how to train a cat with a nipping/scratching problem. A lot of people will just pull away. The cat doesn't understand that as it hurting you. The best way to train them is to have a sharp response with a high pitched yelp, pull away, then disengage with them for a short while (1-2 minutes or so). This is pretty much what another cat would do if they bit/scratched too hard. It would quickly pull away, hiss, and walk off. You're basically imitating that. But don't hiss at your cat. That's weird and they probably wouldn't understand it. Just make a high pitched yelp.

Cats also do well with behavioral association. When the cat is playing and not biting scratching make a noise, clicking with your tongue or something. When they start biting, disengage. Then be sure to do the clicking whenever you play with them.

I taught my cats to come to me using this method. I'd click at them whenever I fed them. After a while they'd come whenever I'd click, because they associated it with food. Instead I'd start petting them/giving them attention while clicking. Now they associate it with attention/pets. Now they almost always come to me on command. Cats do really well with this method of teaching.
