I'm Rose btw (she/her)

The radius and ulna are among my favourite bones specifically because they do this

I hate this. I hate that they do this. I think about this every time I rotate my wrist. It seems like the sort of thing that would go wrong in all sorts of horrible ways and leave a bone sticking out of my skin. and yet it keeps happening. every day of my life.

I rotate my arms regularly just because I like it when they do this.

iiiiiii dont. think thats how bones work

Here are two videos on Reddit demonstrating how the radius bone rotates around the ulna bone: link / link

Yeah i doubt someone would make these gifs for the purpose of an online joke so I have no choice but to believe it

i have a degree is bones (bioarchaeology) this is how bones work and i hate it

For fellow autistic people who aren't sure whether this is a joke: I asked my mother, who has an MD, and she said this is in fact how those bones rotate

You also can either use Google or Literally Just Feel Your Arm Where The Bones Are

This post continues to piss me off because of the number of people who are disturbed or in denial about this extremely simply checkable fact. If you can't handle your arm bones rotating, how the fuck can you be prepared to find out that when doctors do abdominal surgery they just shove your intestines back in there, and the intestines wiggle their way back into place? What about the fact that your eyeballs are on a separate immune system from the rest of your body and need to be hidden from your main immune system so it doesn't start attacking them. Do you even know that digestion should be an extremely painful process but your brain just blocks it out? You people disgust me

This is called pronation and not all animals can do it! Primates and felines are two well known groups that can do it. This is why we can have so much flexibility with how we move our wrists and hands! It is veye helpful for climbing! And grabbing things!

One example of animals that cannot do this are dinosaurs!

I haven't played around much with the idea of a fantasy people species without the ability to turn their wrists, but it would be intersting to explore, since it would restrict how they move their hands

As a biologist who didn't do great in my anatomy classes (I prefer behavioral studies) I need confirmation; are raccoons one of the animals that do this? It seems likely, what with their grabby hands, but if they have something else going on I need to know

yes, raccoons can do it! I believe most, if not all, tree-climbing mammals are capable of pronating their wrists because it allows for a better grip. Though I haven't looked into every group of mammals, so I could be wrong on that. Raccoons and squirrels are definitely both capable of it, I'm sure of that much.

Once you start thinking about humans as a species in a biome, it affects your entire way of looking at normal things.

The other day I referred to female morning joggers as an 'indicator species' in that if you see women jogging in the dark it means that the environment provides migration pathways (sidewalks, clear signs) and doesn't have any known predators of female morning joggers (guy with knife, bear, BigTruck, male morning joggers).

Though, I think that people consider framing humans as animals reacting to their environment as rude.

hey when you make posts, i just want you to know, thou/thee/thy/thine/ye are like he/you(object)/your/yours/you(subject) okay? "thou art wearing shoes," "i will wear shoes for thee," okay?

you say thine if the next word starts with a vowel and thy if the next word starts with a consonant and they both mean "your" so "thine own shoes," "thy shoes," okay?

and ye means you and refers to the subject of a sentence, "ye members of the brotherhood of shoes," okay? you need this information to create better knight yaoi. i'm personally more interested in nun yuri but we are a community

not sure if this has been asked before, but how do you make your pixel art look so nice and clean? is it just a result of extended practice?

well, the truth is it's not reeeeaalllly pixel art exactly,

initially it was just microsoft paint's default pencil tool at its smallest size- then i switched to the brush tool when i felt it looked a bit nicer (it was a little bit softer). now what i use is an approximation in clip studio paint, the settings for which are here:

then i just zoom in quite a bit. i have a "doodles" canvas on clip studio thats 4000 x 3000 so i have plenty of space to draw, but the doodles themselves tend to not be very large, normally less than 800 x 800- that way the pixels stand out more

because of my simplistic style and how much i enjoy the look of image compression, i prefer to not resize my drawings- but if you end up making something that's too small to show up cleanly on a website or something, do this:

0. open microsoft paint.

  1. take your original small drawing. this little guy is barely 100 x 100 pixels.

2. zoom way in, and take a screenshot. once you paste that screenshot into microsoft paint, youll be able to select and copy your small drawing, now enlarged.

goes from this:

love it when people say "this post came to me in a dream/the shower/while high/at 4 am/etc". waiting for the inevitable "this post came in me"

One of those goofy maid animes, except the viewpoint character isn't the hapless master or mistress of the house, but a regular-ass janitor who ended up on this crew due to a paperwork mixup at the temp agency and can't figure out what the fuck is wrong with her co-workers.
