Writing help master post

All of the posts I’ve made that are specific to helping writing the Outsiders and some general 1960s that could be useful elsewhere. Please use this information, that’s what it’s for! I’d be glad to know if you do too.

Not tagging my metas even if there’s good character stuff, as I’d be here a million years.

Brother porch talk fic 🗣️

Darry comes home late from work to find Pony waiting up for him. They talk in a way neither of them thought was possible with anyone but Soda. They consider what brother used to mean and how to be like that again.

At long last it’s finally done. Took me a real long time to get done, partly because Darry was entirely new for me to write. I was in his mind but not how he’d voice things, but I got it now.

Thank you to everyone who sat through my ramblings and many drafts of this 😭

Usual links aren’t working sorry it looks lame

Made a post a while back on one of the cooky traits Marcia has being a full blown belief in Aliens. She has a whole scrapbook of sitings form newspapers and all. Another thing, is that I think she takes horoscopes entirely too literally. Letting those little sections of newspaper or magazine ruin her day if it tells her too. It’ll drive her friends crazy sometimes.

It’s still just new enough a fad and not totally associated with hippies yet for her to be into it.

I think I’ve posted about this before and I’m too lazy to search for it, I’ll write it down this time but what kinda car do we think Steve has?

We’re lucky enough to see Two-bit has a 1949 Plymouth super de-luxe, the Curtis’s old ford is mentioned in the book and shown in the movie.

but Steve’s is never shown or mentioned type wise. It’s likely a older car but idk if he’d go more truck like or something like Two’s car where it’s more to mod for races/plain affordability

“I think it’d be nice to reference Soda’s horse in the movie, how should we do that?”

“We give the funny one a special interest…”

It’s just really funny now that I think about it, especially since it’s two-bit and not even Soda. He owns three good shirts and Mickey Mouse is on all of them. I think what he gives Dally in the hospital is even Mickey related. I’m not judging I’d be a hypocrite.

Johnny once said he actually preferred Looney tunes and they didn’t talk to each other for three days until Steve put a stop to it. 😭

Been thinking about Cherry having a older brother, I think the line was pony wondering/projecting some of his own life onto her (about a older brother telling her to hurry with trash while she sees a sunset) but I’ve been thinking about if she had one.

He’s tall, light brown hair and he got all the freckles. He plays baseball, has a promising life — very all American boy™️

Think it’d be cute for him to be named Brandon and called “Brandy” as an occasional nickname since his little sister is Sherri.

Anonymous asked:

why you sleeping at the bus station? thought you were staying with merrill or did y'all fall out or somethin

y'know you could probably crash at the curtises, they never really lock their doors and i hear y'all ain't strangers or anything

anyway, whatcha wanna be when you're older? gonna do anythin' wild when you turn eighteen or nah

Nah, nah, we didn’t fall out or nothin’ man, but when he needs the room I gotta move for a few days. Y’know? Rooms filled. Hid all my shit…

Bus stations a good spot most of the time, being kinda indoors and everything. Cushy chairs too since most folks ain’t there too late to take them.

Yeah, I’ll see what’s up with them. Not going to break n’ enter or anything… Christ. Nah, I’ll see about them.

As for gettin’ older… I dunno man, I don’t think about it. Don’t think most guys like me do— even if the make it to the age. I know one thing though I don’t wanna be a bum, man. Like if I gotta con… I’ll do what I gotta do but I wanna be respectable…

Maybe ride full time or somethin’.

Rb again just to remember this sideblog. He’s actually super fun to do and come up with stuff for fast.

Thinking of a gimmick besides “computer” that’d stand out more… how we feeling about a ghost blog? Maybe? Think it’d be fun at least as a au/storyline — already sewed a few seeds in there I think it’d be fun idk

Time period post: Easter

Going to try and get this one in time for the holiday! Like my other posts on holidays this is going to be a rundown of some base elements and traditions, of course families will have their own variations and it’d be fun to consider for the characters. (If they celebrate at all) similar to Valentine’s Day becoming much more of a ‘everyone’ holiday, Easter was experiencing more of a secularization. The Easter bunny really started to take off by the mid 50s and by the 60s him and Peter cottontail were mainstays.

Time period post: Valentine’s Day

Not on time for the holiday but useful for the future. Valentine’s Day is a long standing tradition that has typically been reserved for teenagers and adults, that a long with a lot of things changed with the onset of the boomer generation. Prosperity, ability and children were everywhere, change was constant and the structure of holidays was one of them. The changes have been a long time coming but a lot of typically “adult” party based holidays became more and more for all

Sometimes I see things that are like “Ponyboy would NEVER make Soda feel shame for dropping out of school, he would be SO supportive and understanding” and I think we’re forgetting that Ponyboy canonically expresses embarrassment over Soda being a drop-out, and doesn’t want to talk about it with Cherry.

He might not intentionally try to shame Soda, but he himself feels shame over it, so you can bet Sodapop “understands everything” Curtis picks up on that.
