i know i like to chat shit about bruce wayne all the time and it's always for the right reasons believe me but i don't want you guys to think it's because i actually hate him... like that's oomf (one of my fathers)
"doesn't this charater under insane stress going through extremely traumatic events realize how inconvenient their irrational emotional reactions are to the people around them?" well, see, you're not gonna believe this, but the thing is,
“What is it that the child has to teach?
The child naively believes that everything should be fair and everyone should be honest, that only good should prevail, that everybody should have what they want and there should be no pain or sadness.
The child believes the world should be perfect and is outraged to discover it is not.
And the child is right.”
i know these bitches. saw them in gotham years ago
You made a truly devastating Twitter post on dick and cass’s potential sidekicks and I cannot stop thinking about it…. (Im on priv twt so I couldn’t reply)
i apologise for the emotional damage you have sustained and the emotional damage i will inflict upon you right now:
to expand briefly i am just so so obsessed with the potential of cass and dick having sidekicks being introduced SPECIFICALLY in their solo runs in which the arc has nothing to do with batman. in fact both their stories at the moment are very clearly seperating them from gotham/bruce. this very deliberate severance of the man they are constantly emulating — either on purpose or subconsciously — and yet here they are, doomed to repeat their fathers biggest mistake (his biggest blessing, his only blessing).
then looking at it from bruce's perspective; he has no right to deny them this chance. he sees his children holding children and he is reminded of the children he has lost and is losing and will lose. he sees dick and cass as they are now and wonders what they will become when they too, realise that they've failed.
he does not intervene. he can not. this too, is his mistake.
some comics have dozens upon dozens of issues and that makes people reluctant to start them, so reblog with with your fav comic series that have fourteen issues or less
I will NEVER not fuck with women using a traditionally masculine title. Tell me more about that girl that's also a prince.
i love when dick finds out bruce has taken in jason and his reaction is vehement rejection—because he knows how badly bruce can fuck up as a guardian and he doesn't want jason to go through all that? because he's jealous and hates the idea of sharing bruce's attention even if he and bruce are estranged? either way, dick wants to be The Only One
dick and his fucking complex
So like I do agree that Cass is the most fitting successor to the Batman mantle, and in any universe where Bruce retires that it should go to her. But in any universe where Bruce dies? It's Dick. No doubt in my mind.
And that's very much because the "Batman" mantle is about a trauma you don't, can't move past or recover from. And Dick hasn't wanted that mantle because he's put a lot into growing and moving past his trauma.
But if he loses Bruce? Dick is making the grab for that cowl. Time and again THAT is the trauma he can't move past, the wound that won't heal.
Months later and I'm still completely haunted by this comment. It pops into my head unbidden every time I so much as glimpse or think about Dickbats.
the line “you were a lot easier to look up to when you weren’t around” still goes so hard 14ish years later. if damian and bruce’s fraught relationship has but one fan it is me.
hi, first of all, i wanna say you really have inspired me to get back into reading batman comics again, but i'm really lost for where to start since even when i used to read comics i just read the one that was available in the store and never really understood them, so i was hoping if you could maybe help me with some titles? Just to begin again, please?
also, i'm very sorry if this is too long, and if it bothers you
thank you in advance 🙇🏽♀️
i would be delighted to help you out. my first and most important recommendation is to stay away from the main titles (Batman and Detective Comics) until you're ready to jump into a long run. there are loads of other titles that contain far better stories that don't require lots of pre-established knowledge. for someone as oversaturated batman, i do think the quality of the story is far more important than the quantity of it.
as the name suggests, this series is entirely in black and white only. it has three different collections: 1996 (volume 1), 2014 (volume 4) and 2021 (volume 5). volumes 2 and 3 are back-up issues collected specifically from Batman: Gotham Knights (which i also recommend)!!
it is an anthology of dozens of different writers and artists, so every story is unique and seperate from one another! it features some of the most quintessential Batman stories you will ever find.
magically!deaged batfam trope and duke is a baby but now im thinking about deaged duke still having his powers... so on the happy side of things everytime someone makes him laugh they need to duck for cover as light shoots out of this giggling baby. but then on the horrible side of things duke is inconsolable because the darkness around him keep subconsciously taking the shape of nightmares he doesn't understand but knows to be afraid of. cassandra watches him stare off into space, the baby uncharacteristically quiet and pensive, and wonders what duke sees there that they can't as his eyes flash gold. jason turns his back for one damn second and suddenly baby duke is INVISIBLE and now everyone is scrambling to try and find him (he was asleep in the same spot the entire time). "he can't teleport... right?" damian asks for the fourth time as duke definitely appears on the complete opposite side of the room. bruce never should've held duke when he was still dressed as batman because now there's a life-size shadow construct of batman guarding the temporary nursery.
