Flashback #TeleTuesday to the lovely #Warmoth #parts-#Telecaster put together by #luthier and repair-person extraordinaire Grant, of @folkwaymusic in #Waterloo, Canada. #OlympicWhite, with tort 'guard, and a lovely #birdseye #figured #tinted #maple #neck. The steel #chair (and the matching #cabinet behind it) are presented here for my friend @bradleyworkshop who appreciates such objets d'art of worn, but #classic #vintage #industrial beauty! ;) #guitar #guitars #fender #replica #partscaster #tele #build #diy #project #guitarphotography #chairphotography
A couple of vintage #Fender #offsets (a 1965 #Jaguar in #CandyAppleRed and a #Jazzmaster in #LakePlacidBlue, also a '65) and a couple of more recent #parts-offsets in #sunburst and #ShorelineGold spotted at @capsulemusic #Toronto. #guitar #guitars #fenderguitars #vintagefenders #vintageguitars #guitarshopping #offsetguitars #guitarphotography
And now for the good news: project "Rewire The #SG Special Because The Amateur Wiring Job That was In It Already Looked Like Complete And Utter Shite" has been completed! Now that the #guitar has been 100% rewired (but using the same Seymour Duncan P90 pickups it came with) it sounds precisely 42.5 times as good as it did before! :D With #CTS 500k #pots, cloth insulated and metal braided wire, and .022 mf Orange Drop #capacitors...I have been again reminded that when you use quality #parts it makes a huge difference to the sound. It's kind of shocking how much of a difference actually! #guitars #gibsonguitars #sgspecial #diy #guitarrepair #project #guitarcollection #guitarphotography
These shots show two of my favourite things in the world: my homemade parts-Telecaster and making a mess! :D
Homemade DeeBeeCaster™. Considering my skill level ("non-existent"), it turned out REALLY well!

I can't tell you how many times in the past 4 years I have bought #parts for my #guitars only to find out they don't fit. Here's yet ANOTHER example: I bought this white #pearloid #Allparts 'guard from #Long & #McQuade #Toronto yesterday for my 2011 #SG #Standard. It cost $45. That's it beside the stock black 'guard (top)...it's going to look so great, right? WRONG! To illustrate, I placed the stock 'guard over the new one (bottom photo). See any issues? I see one #HUGE #issue: THEY ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING THE SAME SHAPE!!! #WTF?!? This is the second or third replacement SG 'guard I have bought...and not a single one of them fit! How many different shapes/sizes of SG pick guards does/did #Gibson make!?!? Dear Allparts, Long & McQuade, and Gibson: THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!!! :\ Rant over. For now. :P
I'm still obsessing over my new #DeeBeeCaster®. It plays and feels great...and weighs in at a respectable 7 lbs 5.5 oz. I can't promise I will soon post pics of something OTHER THAN this #guitar, but I can promise I will TRY to promise... :D #partscaster #homemade #maverick #guitar #parts #fender #telecaster #replica #mycollection #toronto.
Some assembly required! Remember me b*tching that I finally found the black #Fender #AVRI '62 #Custom #Telecaster I had always wanted but I couldn't afford it? Well I called up my good friends at #Maverick #Guitar #Parts (@maverick_guitar) and for less than one tenth the price, I picked up this beautiful #double#bound black #Tele body and a gorgeous tinted #Allparts #maple #neck. I'm going to #build my own!
Le projet du jour: Another Sunday...another pointless purchase of parts I don't need!
I was at my friend Peter's guitar shop, Mojo Music of Oakville (about 20 km/12 miles West of Toronto, Canada), and I could not pass up these Allparts aged tuners. They looked so great and the price was right too.
So they are going on my 2012 SG Standard P-90...for no particular reason. I had already changed the tuners on this guitar once before...I removed the stock "tulip button" tuners and replaced them with ones that had white plastic buttons...in an attempt to morph it into something more like a 1960s SG Special. But obviously an SG Special would have had "plate" tuners with white plastic buttons...not these individual white plastic button tuners. But what the hell? I must have been bored and poor that day as well! Anyhoo: now that I have a proper replica of a white 60s SG Special, I don't need to keep pretending this guitar is one! :D
1968 Gibson SG Special. Heavily modified (by previous owners) and then heavily returned to stock (by me). The work continues.
There's one advantage to being that guy who buys parts he doesn't need whenever he can't afford a new guitar (i.e. most of the time...), you usually have a lot of choices just hanging around the house all ready for that next project. Bridges sourced from Mojo Music - the best selection of in-stock parts in the city. The ash body is by @maverick_guitar - the best deals on finished and unfinished Fender replacement bodies anywhere. #Maverick #guitar #parts #fender #tele #telecaster #ash #bridge #diy #build #toronto #partscaster #mojomusic
I love getting new guitar parts! I found this Allparts Tele bridge in the same style as on my '68 Tele - with the threaded nickel sadles. It will probably go on my Ash Tele body from Maverick Guitar Parts...but it may end up on the one I have stripped and painted in "Deep Sherwood Green". The possibilities are literally endless. Well, theres two of them anyway.
It sure is shney though...so either way I plan to dull it down a bit by introducing Mr. Shiny New Nickle Bridge to Mr. Fumes of White Vinegar so they can chat for an hour or so before final installation! :D
Do you ever get that sinking feeling when you take something apart and then are not quite sure if you can put it back together again?
Context: I dislike it when the trem arm on a Stratocaster hangs all loose and whatnot. I want it either out of the way or fixed in position so I can grab it easily. This is not always easy to do...if you over-tighten it, it doesn't move easily. If you under-tighten it, it hangs down all loose and whatnot!
Fender sells small springs that can be dropped into the hole which then exert enough upward pressure to hold the arm in place...not too tight, and not too loose...but just right. Kind of like the old parable of Goldie Hawn and the Three Bears.
I dropped one of the aforementioned springs into my seafoam Nash S-63, and to my utter chagrin, I was not able to get the arm deep enough for it to catch the threads and be screwed in. THEN I tried to remove the spring, but it was jammed down there. :\
So...I took the damn thing apart to try and fish the spring out! Round about photo #4 I started getting nervous about putting it back together again!
Long story short, I was able to get the spring out, and put the trem assembly back together with only 4 or 5 pieces leftover! Success!
PS: it wasn't the spring causing the arm not to grip...it was the worn/stripped threads on the arm itself. I tried a different replacement trem arm (I have about 10 of them lying around the house!) and it gripped perfectly and stayed in place!
This is what it looks like when a guy builds a guitar with almost no idea of what he is doing! Body is by Maverick Guitar Parts of Toronto, Canada. The bridge is a Wilkinson I had lying around. There is plenty o' masking tape for reasons that remain unclear... :D
Partsocaster. Body, neck and grey tortoise pickguard by Allparts, Tusq nut, Gotoh Vintage Locking tuners, Chicago Telephone Supply pots, F neck plate by...um...well it was just lying around the house. Same with the knobs. Pickups...don't know what they are but they sound great!
