WHAT?! Okay seriously I have had enough at this point with this bullshit and the misinformation out there just because some people twist away the Odyssey and become famous to the point of people not being able to tell reality from fanfiction and of people who just won't do research or read the most crappy "translations" in the world! So because I have had enough here's ALL the lines Antinous speaks in the Odyssey to clear this up once and for all!

(Be warned this will be long but please share this as much as you can guys! Forgive me in advance if some of my translations are a bit sloppy or not as accurate I am willing to redo some passages if you guys want in comments or reblogs in the future.)

Please spread this because honestly I have had enough and this EXACTLY why I cannot take anymore of these "retellings" and whatever the hell the names are and the changes they make for no reason to characters for "creative liberties" because honestly people cannot even read the sources properly and they just make claims taking advantage of popularity of media!

asking my future lover trick questions like "if you had to retrieve me from the underworld, would you turn around?"

it's a trick question because most would think the proper answer would be something like, "no, of course i would not fail you!" but see, it's a secret phrasing of a different questionโ€”if you understand Why he turned around. which is Love. i am thinking of another post about orpheus and eurydice that said something along the lines of "to love someone Is to turn around. to love someone is to look at them." and that's exactly it. no matter the variation, whether he hears her call his name, hears her stumble or doesn't hear her footsteps, whether he calls out and she does not respond, it's all for love that he looks back. in all tellings, it's how much he loves her that ultimately dooms them both. which makes the actual question this: do you love me so helplessly that you would have no choice But to turn around?

so if asked, "if you were orpheus, would you turn around?" the answer is, for true lovers, Yes.

ive been so inactive sorry guys life lowkey putting me through it brutally

The Lament of a Life (Achilles and Antilochus short songfic)

If someone asks me how the lament of Achilles looks like my answer would be the amazing aria with music composed by Vivaldi:

The lyrics go on a repeat like this:

So today is a bit chilly and so I was inspired by this amazing song and made this! (Sorry itis a random inspiration I had this morning from this piece thus the title "song-fic")

oh, no, i have no concept of the size of a whale or of the galaxy. i am cosmically insignificant, which is fine. the other day i accidentally spilled a few grains of sugar on the counter. i watched a single ant heft it over his head and run with it - run! - like he was carrying a crown.

sometimes when i am watching the rain i think about how each particular drop is new and only exists for right-now and yet it is the same water as it has been for millennia. the atoms i am are only meeting in this form for this one life. later maybe they will be a mushroom. maybe in the infinite expanse of time, two of my molecules will meet each other again and they'll say i remember existing with you. which is maybe how a star feels, watching humans dance and laugh and sing in the bodies we are borrowing.

what am i in the cosmic sense? what of the stupid human exploits of my tiny human life?

the other day i found a wilting bumblebee and fed it a little water. after an hour, he made a lazy loop of flight. up and towards the stars.

"if i was paris i'd have picked athena" "i would have picked hera"

you fool. you utter buffoon. it doesn't matter. it never mattered. you sound like the dumbasses who say they wouldn't have turned around if they were orpheus. you, like them, are completely missing the point. the war was always going to happen as a result of who he picked, just perhaps the catalyst would have been different. and does picking a different catalyst really make you any better? lets say you picked hera and her offer of kingdoms. so you doom your nation to ruin for wealth? power? and that, in your mind, is the morally superior choice to dooming it for love? shall we clap and cheer for you? oh wise one so above the fickleness and follies of love! you, unlike paris, would doom your nation for Practical reasons. well, forgive me, but thats incredibly dull and you sound incredibly boring

if one more person makes a joke about eating the apple im going to lose my fucking mind. it was funny the first 10 times. now you're beating a dead trojan horse

Why do you believe the war would have happened no matter who he picked?

because thats how fate works in ancient greek epic poetry ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ like zeus was planning a war to end the age of heroes. it quite literally was not preventable, that is the plot.
