"Good morning class, today we are welcoming a new student into our team!"
At this news, the class began to chatter excitedly, asking various questions and already forming opinions about the new student.
"Come on, calm down everyone, we don't want to scare her away!" The teacher calmed down the class after hearing some interesting conversations.
At that moment, the door slowly opened and a girl walked in with her head down. She had almost no presence, and if it weren't for the fact that sensei had been able to quieten the class, they probably would've never noticed her arrival.Β
"Ah, you've arrived! Please introduce yourself, we've been waiting!"
The teacher says this with a reassuring tone, which gave the her the last bit of confidence she needed to talk in front of the whole room of people. The class seemed to be breathing down your neck, their anticipation almost suffocating you. At last, she collected some confidence and lifted her head to reveal that her face was covered with a mask.
"Hello, my name is L/n Y/n. It's nice to meet all of you, I hope that we can get along." Her voice was quiet but steady and she bowed after introducing herself.
"Thank you, Y/n! Now go sit next to Kakashi over there and I'll start today's lesson."
As she sat down, Y/n kept her head lowered and listened silently to what Sensei was saying. Y/n was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't realise that someone was staring at her. She looked over to her right to see a boy she assumed was Kakashi, looking at her with a neutral expression. He then spoke quietly so that only Y/n could hear.

A few years had passed since this moment and Kakashi and Y/n had grown from acquaintances to close friends. In was felt like the blink of an eye, it was already time for graduation and all the classes had taken their final exams. Unsurprisingly, Kakashi had the highest score by far.
"I can't believe you got top of the class again, Bakashi, i really thought I would at least get something close to your score this time!" Y/n whined with light-hearted frustration.
"Y/n, I can't believe you've done this, calling me that name, you traitor,"
Kakashi says this with an attempt of his usual stoic look. Unfortunately, his amusement was clearly visible in his eyes.
"Haha, sorry, Obito must be getting to me," Y/n replied, trying to stifle her laughter.
"Its fine, traitor," The boy rolled his eyes fondly, not really meaning what he said.
"Hey, Kakashi, want to go eat on that bench? I can't see Rin or Obito anywhere and lunch is almost over,"
"That idiot is probably somewhere trying to get Rin to date him, lets just eat. We've waited so long even he can't whine about us starting without them."
Y/n, chuckled politely, although she felt a little bad for Obito - he really did love Rin. Plus, Y/n wondered if she would end up like him, since their time at the academy was over and she had still not confessed to Kakashi. There was a low chance that she would end up in Kakashi's squad, so they might even begin to drift away from eachother.
The two sat down and ate their lunch quietly, just like they do everyday. It was just the right season for the cherry blossoms bloom and the petals danced in the wind like ballerinas, creating an ethereal atmosphere. Suddenly, Y/n stopped eating and looked over at Kakashi.
Kakashi looked over at her, his food already eaten, and replied.
"Um, I want to try something with you,"
Now Kakashi was curious and, even though he would never admit it, slightly nervous; it had been a while since Y/n had spoke to him with this kind of caution and nervousness. As they had become closer over time, she had become less shy and conservative. Kakashi enjoyed how open she was with him now and hoped that this wouldn't change, but for a while she had seemed more reserved around him.
"Kakashi, I want to show you my face"
Y/n said the next part so quietly that even Kakashi's strong hearing barely caught it.
"I was also wondering if I could see yours. It's completely fine if you don't want to, but I still want to show you my face," Y/n spoke slightly louder this time, with a newfound resolve. This would surely bring her and Kakashi closer, even if she was the only one who showed her face.
Kakashi was surprised. He knew that he and Y/n were close, but he didn't think that she trusted him that much. They had been in each other's company for so long that he hadn't even noticed how their relationship was changing. Thinking about it now, he also trusted Y/n a lot; she was always there to listen quietly and offer advice when he needed it. Kakashi, despite all his walls and boundaries, felt that he could rely on her, without feeling guilty.
Y/n gasped, not expecting Kakashi to actually say yes. Unsure what to do next, she faced away from him. Kakashi caught on to what Y/n was thinking and mirrored her. Once their backs were to each other they both took deep breaths.
After some time, Y/n spoke up, "Should we try on the count of 3?"
Spring had bloomed and the trees' pink blossoms swayed in the wind peacefully. Petals were strewn all over the place, including in Kakashi's spikey hair.
Y/n hesitantly reached for her mask. "2..."
The sun's bright gaze softened at the pair and the sky was painted with warm hues.
It felt like the noise from their peers was being tuned out and, despite how simple of a moment this was, when looking back on this moment, the two would have claimed that even time slowed.
They both turned around at the same time and saw each others bare faces. Y/n's face began to heat up and Kakashi's eyes softened. For once the two did not make eye contact because they were so busy studying eachother's features. Y/n's eyes searched Kakashi's face and in her head she took note of all his spots and calluses. She wanted to remember every part of him, for when things would be difficult later on, in case she wouldn't have a chance to look at him whenever she felt like it. Y/n could now see Kakashi's smile, and she openly admired it.
Unfortunately for her, Kakashi could now also see that Y/n went more and more red as she looked at him, so much that eventually face was as red as Kushina's hair. He gave her a teasing look.
"Is there something on my face?"
Realising what he could see, Y/n made a weird noise and went to cover her face but stopped, instead she looked defiantly into Kakashi's eyes.
"No, I just like your face, in case you couldn't tell."
