With the power of adhd you can do two halves of different chores and then sit down again instead of finishing either 👍

This may be mistaken for half-assing it but you would be wrong. I am whole-assing but I've distributed my ass across multiple tasks and didn't finish anything. But. Multiple chores are more done than they were before. Take it or leave it

Deeply fascinated by the people who heard rightful criticism of generative AI (i.e. chatgpt etc) and decided all machine learning is evil or something. You sound like a scifi villain. You sound like the character who's wrong on an episode of star trek. That's not how this works

I feel like some people's takeaway from the 2020s AI Boom and Immediate Backlash has been "the computers... are evil?" When it's more like. The computers are tools and the entities with the most money to develop them are megacorporations with 0 regard for ethics re: data privacy, plagiarism, wasting a fuckload of energy, etc. Like it's not sentient and it's not gonna Get You it's just our cool new future capitalistic exploitation. You're getting mad at a hammer instead of the guy hitting people with it

Tacking on that last metaphor: hammers are for driving nails, not hitting people. AI is for identifying cancer cells and finding a particular item out of 100,000 image files, not stealing people’s art and getting facts wrong in search results.

“Public libraries are such important, lovely places!” Yes but do you GO there. Do you STUDY there. Do you meet friends and get coffee there. Do you borrow the FREE, ZERO SUBSCRIPTION, ZERO TRACKING books, audiobooks, ebooks, and films. Have you checked out their events and schemes. Do you sign up for the low cost courses in ASL or knitting or programming or writing your CV that they probably run. Do you know they probably have myriad of schemes to help low income families. Do you hire their low cost rooms if you need them. Have you joined their social groups. Do you use the FREE COMPUTERS. Do you even know what your library is trying to offer you. Listen, the library shouldn’t just exist for you as a nice idea. That’s why more libraries shut every year

If this post persuades even one person to get a free library account and use it, my time on this hellsite will not have been spent in vain

what is THE worst thing you've ever drank. all liquids acceptable. please tell me what it was, bonus points for why

Hey whoa hi. Hello. I am looking directly into your ear canal. What do you mean you drank a tube of virus concentrate.

So, I was working in a lab, right? My job in the lab was preparing a pure, concentrated enough sample of virus. This is tricky since, y'know, viruses require hosts to replicate, but you then need to get the host cells (and the pieces of the host cells that died!) out of the sample while still keeping the viruses. Once I'd finished and the samples had been sent to the database for analysis as well as a second one sent to be frozen for future reference, there was still some left over that needed to be disposed of.

I, knowing that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, waited carefully for the lab director to be deep in conversation with someone else on the other side of the laboratory. And then I took my chance.

Test tubes, as it turns out, are really bad as shot glasses. Their shape turns any liquid inside into a stream, so you really can't knock it back quickly - it takes a couple seconds. Additionally, the best way I can describe the taste of virus concentrate was "sterile rot". A very unique kind of bad! Made worse by the test tube's inefficiency as a shot glass.

(by the way we were studying bacteriophages, not animal viruses. these viruses are too specialized on attacking prokaryotes to even recognize our cells as targets at all, according to studies.)

(but also like. if the viruses managed to successfully switch hosts and killed me with a violent infection, itd still be worth it.)

(for science.)

You have a fitting blog title

this post is getting 50k easy

“Of course autistic people can go to the bathroom by themselves and have jobs!!” Some can’t. They’re not burdens or an “epidemic” either. Please don’t get pulled into an argument about usefulness, because that feeds into their baseline eugenic idea that you have to “contribute to society” to justify your existence. Nobody’s worth is tied to what they can do for the state.

Good morning.

I'm autistic and just texted my overnight carer that I couldn't sleep anymore and would like to get up. I was led into the bathroom by her and she helped me there. I was then led into the kitchen, she made me tea and now, while I'm drinking from my dysphagia cup, she watches every sip in case I choke. I can't drink unsupervised.

After that she'll help me go to the bathroom again and help me shower, brush my teeth, etc.

I needed help with this all my life and what I can and can't do is really good and a lot of progress, actually. There was a time when I couldn't hold the shower head and needed someone to fully shower me, for example. Now I at least can wash myself in the shower with prompts.

We're not "some", we're many. Many of us simply aren't online and therefore people don't notice us.

Executive chef at a top Thai restaurant tells Gordon Ramsay that his Pad Thai is trash [x]

Lmao “what do you want to know from me?” Fuck!

So no one thinks that Gordon’s being “Put in his place” or something, this is from Gordon’s show where he specifically goes to places around the world to be schooled in how they do their cuisine and un-fuck the British (Imperialist but we can’t admit that on TV, but he does hint STRONGLY at it in some episodes) way of cooking “exotic” dishes by learning from the people who do it best.

That’s the world’s most successful chef putting himself in a position to learn from chefs around the world in world-class restaurants, grandmother’s houses, in a cramped make-shift kitchen on a rocking and speeding steam train, and more. He doesn’t shy away from learning from people who’ve never been in the remote vicinity of a culinary arts school or run a “professional” kitchen.

And here he’s showing a chef what he thinks of as Pad Thai and if you don’t think one of the most talented chefs on earth didn’t know he was specifically setting himself up to fail to make a point to his audience, then hopefully you do now! <3

the context- he wasnt saying ‘heres my world famous pad tai for you to sample, a recipe i hold more dear then my own mother’ its closer to  ‘here, this is how i was taught to cook pad tai in liverpool by a man named charles, how far off am i?’

so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”

but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.

ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.

if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?

Also because my exact address in Queertown is usually nobody's business.

In either case, you only need all the details if you're coming back to my place.

Someone in that poll said not to watch naruto bc it's queerbait and I hate to tell you this but naruto wasn't trying to queerbait you it's actually the number 1 example of "text is so misogynistic it becomes gay"

AT THIS PANEL I WENT TO I ASKED DANTE BASCO WHAT HIS FAVORITE LINE AS ZUKO WAS AND HE SAID THIS ONE

It actually kills me how easy it is to become someone murderbot cares about

Like it gets its first job that it chose and like within hours is invested enough to let someone lay down with it, its upset that it relaxed when there was still someone who needed protection despite the job basically being over anyway

It just watched the preservation team for most of their survey and decided it like them based on things like Mensah driving safely before it was ever ready to accept direct kindness

Its capacity for love is massive when shown even the slightest basic compassion and sometimes even when it can just sympathize with your position despite you hurting it

and it still walks around like "I stepped through the door and I bet everyone flinched because I'm a Terrifying murderbot, which is my name btw, the one I chose for myself"

What's wrong with the name Fairy? When she was younger, I called her Little Fairy, but I can't call her like that when she's grown, can I?

SO NOBODY WAS GOING TO TELL ME THAT THE APOTHECARY DIARIES SHREDS ABSOLUTE ASS

I know I’m late because I always am but I need to convince everyone else who hasn’t seen it to see it because it was so much better than I was expecting, like top 10 all time

Broke Girl in imperial china, raised and taught by an elderly man in a shack, works as an apothecary at a brothel in the red light district, yeah? Total freak (affectionate). One-track mind, obsessed with poisons and their effects, mad scientist at heart but still very outwardly modest and polite and follows the etiquette of the time. Ends up sold off to work in the Emperor's palace, where she’s put to use as a food taster to make sure one of his favourite courtesans doesn’t get poisoned by a rival or something. But political shit and stuff keeps popping up Aa it does, bigwigs dying and nobody knowing why, scientific discoveries that aren’t well known yet, and because she essentially has the strongest handle on the scientific method and has an encyclopedic knowledge of the natural world, she keeps getting consulted and sucked into solving things and figuring out puzzles

AND THEN IT ALL JUST ARCXTGFYFFHCGJCUBVGHDT

THE DEPTH OF THE FUCKING CHARACTERS BRO

AND IT’S SCIENTIFICALLY ACCURATE IN INTERESTING WAYS

IT HANDLES THE TOPIC OF SEX WORK AND THE COURTESAN POSITION IN AN OPEN AND RESPECTFUL WAY

THERE HAVE BEEN ZERO PANTY SHOT FANSERVICE SCENES

IM GONNA SCREAM

My mom is an OG mad scientist so I had to make the recommendation and LEARNED SOME SHIT

So now I have to track THIS down
