FAQ I Just wanted a place to keep all the Dungeon Meshi content I keep trying to find but have trouble to. Check pinned post for tags. Cyan - Adult - She/He - Brazilian

Hello!

I'm Cyan (or anything you wanna call me) this blog started as just a stash for Dungeon Meshi extras and worldbuilding details but expanded as people asked questions and I did my best to answer! Hope you find it as useful as I do. I try my best to categorize my posts so they're easy to find but sometimes I forget.

If you'd like to share something you compiled yourself feel free to send it to me and I'll reblog it! You can also send a submission if you'd prefer. The main goal is to share Dungeon Meshi information :3

Anon who sent the huge ask about ogres in Melini: I see your ask but you have worded it in a very strange way that's why I didn't respond the first time. But since you send it again I'll at least answer your question

"Would Laios help the Ogres and let them stay in Melini?"

Probably! If they want to move there! At the end of the manga we can see that Melini is a place that accepts different people including demi-humans and that what that one of Laios priorities is to find ways to better feed everyone so nobody goes hungry, so I don't see why Ogres (who are considered human) wouldn't be welcome to join

That being said relocating ogres as a way to "stop them from going extinct" isn't really, idk, ethical? Lots of real life implications there which aren't great.

The ideal situation is to make their own home into a place where they can exist not to uproot them and move them somewhere else for "their own good". Honestly even them HAVING to move somewhere else cause that's their only option to save their culture/avoid going extinct would be pretty sad. And the research Laios does about food sources is bound to help everyone not only the people from Melini.

Shuro is the one with local power to help at least the ones in the Island of Wa , I think the bigger issue isn't their population decline (elves are also suffering a population decline) but rather the abuse they suffer.

Anonymous asked:

Did ancient magic become legal in Melini?

I think ancient magic probably stopped being a thing?

Actually now I'm not sure, from what I understand to use ancient magic they needed the dungeon connections and since there's no more man made dungeon's that's probably no longer possible? (I don't think it would work on natural dungeons or else people would have already been using them for it right?)

Ancient Magic is forbidden cause it has ties with the Demon and it's existence it's hidden by the long lived races, since the demon has been "defeated" as far as they know I don't think there would be a reason to forbid it? But I also think it's not gonna be something possible anyway, which is kinda sad for people who want to become beastmen like Lycion

Even if it is still possible to create man made dungeons for ancient magic I don't think they would, cause that would risk a repeat of what they just went thru lmao

Hello! Just wanted to ask if there's any further information on how hair maintenance and hygiene plays into spellcasting and the ability to be affected by magic? mainly regarding the instance where senshi couldn't be affected by marcille's water-walk until he had his beard and hair washed out. I've gone through after searching up details on 'hair' specifically and how it's a common warm up exercise to tidy it for spellcasters/useful as a weaker substitute for blood but otherwise not compulsory for spellcasting itself, but i've been stumped on how its specific cleanliness factors into things. have you any information/personal insight? thank you!

Hello!

I have this post about hair which is basically what you've already described about how it works. The thing with Senshi I believe was an issue specific to him tho!

Senshi cooks monsters who themselves have magical properties, so the dirt in his beard acted as a "magic resistant" coating

I don't think this would be an issue most people would have, but might be that impurities in the hair would have an effect if you tried to use it for magic? ๐Ÿค”

I imagine average grooming is enough, just don't let your hair soak with monster blood and fat like Senshi.

Dungeon Meshi - Resurrection and Healing

Some more information about Resurrection and Healing Magic from several chapters under the cut

Anonymous asked:

If Falin and company left right away via return scroll could she live a normal life? Would Thistle's control over her reestablish if she returned to the dungeon? Or is that permanently severed once they leave? Haven't seen any official-ish answers for this.

Do you mean if they had managed to leave right after resurrecting her? I believe the magic would have been severed yes and I don't think going back in would make it active again since the connection with the dungeon would have been severed I imagine whatever spell thistle had in the dragon would be undone too and have to be done again?

I'm mostly basing it on the fact that dungeon lords stop being dungeon lords once they're removed from the dungeon, and the fact that if you die and even a bit of you is out of the dungeon you can no longer be resurrected.

My train of thought is that if the spell binding you to your body is undone when you leave the dungeon the spell that binds the bit of dragon soul inside Falin would probably be undone too? And so it wouldn't be able to go back to the original dragon anyway and the spell Thistle had on it probably wouldn't count?? Actually the dragon soul itself might escape the dungeon from Falin leaving if it works like that drawing of the little ghost going "goodbye~"

That's my assumption, I don't remember if there's something more specific that could answer this.

hi!! i just saw the ask (from last month) speculating about anime production and BOY do i hope tit doesn't end after two seasons. if they try to fit in the rest of the story into a single season i'll be so disappointed.

what comes after where the anime ended is so much more lore-heavy and diaolgue-heavy that a single season couldn't do it any justice!!

that's my opinion, and i'd be so interested in what others would have to say to this. if you already answered something about this, sorry for being annoying lol :3

Hello!

I don't think there's enough left for more than another 24 episode season unfortunately, wait maybe they'd separate it on 2 12 episode seasons? I'd die

The first season turned 52 chapters into 24 episodes (Around 2.18 chapters per episode, which translates into some episodes being 3 chapters) which I understand was done so it stopped at a satisfying point which would hopefully get people to come back for S2 (and probably to have more space for s2) but it was already a shame some episodes didn't have the room to breathe they needed.. we have 45 chapters left in the manga so that's around 1.8 chapters per episode for another 24 episode season, I'd say it's good so more lore heavy episodes have room, I assume they'll do the same as S1 they and try to cut off some of the less "exciting" parts to make room for the more important episodes, it's kinda sad that anime seasons have to follow the 12 episode increments I don't think dunmeshi needs much more than 24 episodes to finish in a satisfying way, 36 would be too much. Actually maybe I'm wrong can they do that? I don't understand how anime works anymore

Anyway, I think it's gonna be fine, probably, maybe, at least we have more room than S1! Everyone should read the manga for the ultimate dungeon meshi experience tho

Do you think weโ€™ll get a Dungeon Meshi X Monster Hunter collaboration someday?

A Monster Hunter and Dungeon Meshi crossover would be a match made in heaven, so why hasnโ€™t it been done yet?

Heck Iโ€™m even praying a decent fanfic author at least decides to cause that sounds like a really fun story.

I've never played monster hunter and I'm not sure how collabs there work but it sounds like it would be fun!

I have this theory regarding Changelings as I think thereโ€™s a way to utilize them without becoming fertilizer.

You know out of all the the critters and unique qualities of the dungeon, one in particular I took great interest in was the Changeling Shrooms, because their abilities to alter others and objects are honestly quite revolutionary. I mean being able to change oneโ€™s own race would be immensely beneficial and valuable, but the Changelings being capable of altering matter and objects could just as well be incredible and may spur some innovations.

But unfortunately as Mithrun confirmed and we all suspected, the Changelings have the nasty sight effect of basically turning the victim affected by their spores into fertilizer in less than a few days.

A damn shame since I feel the Changelings were a clever way for Kui to implement the character creators we see in fantasy video games and such. Butโ€ฆmaybe thereโ€™s a way for the denizens of Dungeon Meshi to use changelings without such a risk of being "eaten" by the spores.

You see I think the key is to keep the spores from maturing into their adult stage, basically to keep them in a stagnant state through perhaps through an ointment kills off the older spores yet keeps the younger ones alive until they need to be purged again. Basically the ointment keeping the spores in a stagnant limbo and the host change without being fertilized. So perhaps using some of the medical herbs Marcille used for her cure to negate fungal growth to an extent, and even a dash of ancient magic to stagnate the spores in a perpetual state, could allow for changelings to be more of a symbiotic relationship with the host instead of being eaten by them eventually.

I know this is sorta more speculative, but it could theoretically work since making a monsters flesh your own by digestion was a key discovery here. And through this ointment idea and the skin cells helping to โ€œeat" and assimilate the weakened spores could work theoretically. But what do you guys think, Iโ€™m very curious to see what your thoughts on this theory for the Changelings.

I don't think Kui quite tries to implement "video game mechanics" in Dungeon Meshi, rather it's just some similarities from the fantasy genre (there's the stats from the AB but I mean in the main story). For example something interesting is that she doesn't really use the word "mana" (which is common concept in video games) rather she uses "magic" or "magic power" mana comes from the translation which probably wanted to keep it more similar to "video game mechanics in anime" which is a trope used in lots of fantasy anime (especially isekais I think). It also happened with translating "tallmen" as "human" and "half-foots" as "halflings" (brazilian translation still calls tallmen by humans), which I think it's a shame since Kui is crafted an unique fantasy world so adapting it into a generic "video games in anime" is sad.

That aside - That's an interesting theory, I wonder if anyone would want to risk going thru that to be able to live as another race? In the manga they have questions about the transformation like if the change would affect their lifespan, I wonder how "good" of a transformation it is. Since it's not meant to last it could be the case that there would strange side effects to the transformation (cause they don't really seem to fully assimilate the genetics of the other races, for example there's no canon full elves with beards or dark hair but elf senshi has both, so there might be other things about him that are different from other elves)

I don't know enough about fungi to say if something like that could work tho, and even in the stage they are everyone who gets transformed by the changelings are already spreading spores and if they make a ring they transform other people, they would probably have to make that stop too to make it safe.

The thing about "eating to make it part of you" might not work for something like changelings tho, it's their magic that transform others while they don't transform themselves, so even if you used magic to somehow assimilate the spores into yourself I don't think it would have that effect?

I also think it would probably get weird fast if changing your race was accessible, especially with the vastly different lifespan and the fact long lived races have way more privileges in that world

I do think it's something cool to theorize about tho, these are just my thoughts!

Do we know if thereโ€™s any upcoming ryoko kui fan sign event?

I don't think so, but I usually only hear about those after they happen

Say, do you happen to have info on if/when Daydream Hour will be printed in English? I swear I remember a post on Tumblr in December or January (it might have been from you) saying that it's supposed to be available May this year, but looking online has yielded no results. Thanks!
