โ€œYeah, I know,โ€ Steve mumbles. His neck feels hot. โ€œBut what if thereโ€™s something in the lake?โ€
โ€œLike what?โ€ Eddie has changed into denim shorts, cutoff at the thighs. Steve doesnโ€™t want to admit it, but heโ€™s staring. How could he not? Eddie has a thigh tattoo, some strange angel-looking lady on his skin. Heโ€™s wearing an old Krokus t-shirt, cut off at the sleeves, showing off his pale, muscled arms. Steve wonders if thatโ€™s the kind of music he listens to. Maybe heโ€™ll ask, if they ever become friends.
Steve looks away, squints at the sun, and tries to remember the question. โ€œLike- I donโ€™t know! Like, a shark.โ€
โ€œA shark?โ€ Eddie laughs. It would be a nice laugh if he wasnโ€™t such an asshole to Steve. โ€œItโ€™s a manmade lake, Steve.โ€
โ€œSo?โ€ Steve kicks at a loose nail. Thatโ€™s a hazard.
โ€œSoโ€ฆ It means that itโ€™s impossible for there to be any sharks in there.โ€
โ€œOkay.โ€ Steve watches Will and Mike team up to dunk Dustin under the water. Dustin returns the favor by splashing them. โ€œWhat about alligators?โ€
โ€œWhat about them?โ€
Steve huffs. โ€œAre they in there?โ€ he asks, gesturing exasperatingly at the lake.
Eddie shakes his head. โ€œThere are no sharks, no gators, no flesh-eating monsters-โ€
โ€œFlesh-eating monsters?โ€ Steve interrupts. His skin crawls.
โ€œThere arenโ€™t any,โ€ Eddie reaffirms. He looks thoroughly amused, as if Steve taking his job seriously is something to laugh at. โ€œLighten up, okay?โ€

Based on the amazing and ongoing fanfiction Camp Folktale, Summer of โ€˜86 by @eddielore. It's a cute summer camp fanfiction, and while steddie is the main couple, there are more POV's throughout the fic. Lots of cuteness and love thrown around. Enemies to friends to lovers, what more can you ask? I sincerely recommend it if you want to have some fun and softness. Read it!
