ELLIE RENAE

Any pronouns unless I ask.

This is a hobby. I didn't come here to win. I came here to make friends. 😠

Black comedy, psychological horror, thriller, ergodic literature, science fiction, queer romance, even queer-er erotica, and a breakneck pace for all of them.

If anything happens, you can find me on Gumroad, Mastodon, Bluesky, and Cohost.

I even own this URL, so you can bookmark ellierenae.com in case of emergencies.

AVAILABLE WORK

Chinese Spoons - A poem within a collection by many artists.

The collection, RENAISSANCE, was published by Yellow Arrow Journal with the theme "cultural renaissance". This concise poem captures the feeling of being torn between two identities, never fully acknowledged as one or the other.
Available here in paperback

On the Subject of Control - A short science fiction story. Dark and sapphic.

This high-concept short follows a pair of institutionalized lovers as they navigate their newfound relationship under experimental (not mind-altering, but behavior-altering) drugs.
Available here in paperback
Available here digitally

Violence Without Plot - A chapbook / single short story.

This dark comedy's Patrick-Bateman styled protagonist is tossed from woman to woman, never getting the chance to make a plot-driving decision. His "hero's journey" is to realize that the story was never about him.
Available here in paperback
Available here digitally

The Notebook of a Fictional Man - The photocopied notes of a time traveler.

The Notebook of a Fictional Man (a travel diary meant to impress historians), accidentally centers itself around the gentle giant with whom the writer is secretly in love.
Available here in paperback

WIP LIST

Ouroboros Hivemind - Mind-bending sapphic erotica.

Two immortals, one who drinks blood and one who drinks souls, consuming each other to the point of becoming a single entity.

??? - Secret book series.

Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy?

I think kafka’s diaries are the strongest evidence that journaling is not necessarily good for your mental health

it's because he didn't use washi tape

Every day I wake up and thank god I’m not a content creator.

Me when I get to enjoy my hobbies and interests and friends on my own terms and don’t have to try and tailor my entire self image to what’s marketable

i think we should have a custom blog theme renaissance

and i don't just mean making more of them, i also mean appreciation of them and making them a central part of tumblr's site culture again. no other popular social media site (although tumblr technically is a microblogging site) really offers this level of aesthetic and functional customization anymore. it's maybe a header, a bio, and an icon.

i remember when putting a lot of effort into themes, mutual theme "ratings", complimenting users on their pages, proudly announcing theme changes/customizations, and appreciating theme makers for their work was a norm on this site. it's how many young people got into html.

i know many people are primarily mobile users but when on desktop... who cares if tumblr makes it a little difficult to get directly to someone's blog page these days. i think themes are a really excellent part of tumblr and i don't want them quietly guttering out.

My tumblr theme and pages are all something I’m super proud of; I work super hard on them. They’re a form of art to me. Collaborative when customizing themes from other creators and mixing and matching different pages and such!

basically I think that if your protagonist doesn’t want to fuck someone so bad it makes them look stupid, then there probably isn’t enough energy in your story. “Fuck someone” isn’t literal btw—they can want to uncover the secrets of their parent’s death, they can want to prove their worth, they can want a donut from one particular bakery—it can be anything so long as they want it so bad that they’ll make decisions that make any sane person go “are you a moron??”, with little to no forethought, or even tons of forethought and this is still the option they chose. Because they want to fuck that thing so bad.

(image description: a three panel drawing with very simple sketched lines and only a little quick coloration. it depicts a woman sitting at a desk, with a computer keyboard, musing aloud; "sometimes I wish my creative works would just make themselves...", after which she is startled by the arrival of a stick figure with a square head labeled "generative AI," which replies; "I can do that." the final panel is the only one with detailed color and lighting, showing the artist whipping out a pencil-shaped laser gun and exploding the AI entity. end description.)

had a conversation in a writing server, decided to make a meme about it.

Despite only having 13 notes, this post made it to another discord server I'm in lol. Sending it around again because it's still relevant

writing tip #3773:

just fuckign. run your celebrated writing organisation into the ground in so many ways that the chaos is impossible to keep track of

filmmakers and audiences and critics alike all need to start suspending their disbelief again

‘this doesn’t make sense’ so?????

important edition

[Image ID: Tumblr tag reading: #heres the thing. you have to ask yourself ‘would this be better if it made sense’ and if the answer is ‘no’ then dont worry about it /End ID]

No matter what type of art you create, however big or small, professional or amateur, please keep doing it, keep creating, keep dreaming! David Lynch is your friend.
