worlds and ways anew

@amanita-cynth

Hi there. I'm Amanita Cynth, though you can just call me Cynth or another nickname. This is a side blog for stuff for my fiction to go. If you know the source of any images I wasn't able to find, or are the source of any media and want it removed, please message me immediately.

A masterpost of all my current WIPS and the things I’ve posted based on them, because I am actually doing things, I swear, I’m just bad at showing them.

This post will be kept fairly updated as more things get posted.

Last Update: 01/10/2024 (I am not american)

I keep seeing sinking ship links to other social medias and I just want u to know that if this place burns down I can be found Nowhere. I will at last be Free. Look for me in the Drift.

creators: here’s an edgy character!
me: cool
creators: here’s an edgy character that hides how much they love their friends but would still die for them without hesitation.
me, barely holding back tears: th-thanks

when georges bataille wrote, “no greater desire exists than a wounded person’s need for another wound” & when gillian flynn wrote, “a child weaned on poison considers harm a comfort” & when ocean vuong wrote, “sometimes being offered tenderness feels like the very proof that you’ve been ruined” & when lisa m. basile wrote, “did you inherit a sickness? did you blame god? do you believe in god? do you believe in yourself? are you still on fire? did you ever put out the fire?” & when stephen a. guirgis wrote, “why didn't you make me good enough so that you could’ve loved me?”

Image #3: Text reading: In Ontario, I am a child again. Don't tell me what to do. When you're a nail, everything looks like a hammer; when you're a child, everything sounds like derision. I have made myself so small in my mind that I can only ever be looked down upon. This is my worst trick. /End IDs]

*struggles while writing* i suck and writing is hard

*remembers some ppl use ai* i am a creative force. i am uncorrupted by theft and indolence. i am on a journey to excellence. it is my duty to keep taking joy in creating.

alright, what words do y'all search for in your manuscript during your final pass through?

  1. I run a word frequency macro, which produces a list of every word in the manuscript alongside a count of how many times the word was used
  2. I check the top of the list to see if there's anything that looks iffy (too many uses of "eyes," "sighed," "very," etc., will catch my attention)
  3. I do a ctrl + find for any of those words and quickly see whether they were used well and effectively or come across as weak writing

I use the macro that's shown on this web page after the line "The following macro will do just that":

A character can still be a great character without being a good person.

In fact, some of the best characters are terrible people.

Because a character’s worth should be based on how complex and interesting they are, not their morality if they were real.

Yes. A thousand times, yes.

my favorite genre of fictional character is like "i am terrifying to almost everyone, i'm very good at killing, i can endure anything, i've become exceptionally good at playing into my reputation, and if you try to give me positive social interaction i will react with confusion and cower in a corner like an abused animal. and i may try to shoot you. but there is also a chance i may imprint on you like a feral dog receiving its first loving touch! good luck."

a character who isn't used to being cared for or treated kindly being gently and tenderly cared for for the first time in years or maybe ever. save me

I really like this website because somebody will be like “there’s nothing wrong with darting out from behind a parked car into traffic, bootlicker” and you can be like okay this clearly evolved from a valid point about how the US is too car-centric. But something happened to it.

New piece! Am calling her “Skör” (fragile in Swedish).

Assembled from strips of lace, a doily, and some fiddly needle lace and crochet for the teeth. Starched with diluted wood glue.

Perfect in time for Halloween!
