Burning Iron and Honey Sweet Promises: A Quackity/Wilbur Fae AU. Wilbur is a witch, the firstborn son of the head of the fae hunter’s village, and someone who has felt trapped his entire life. When the hunters bring back an impressive capture – the King of the Unseelie Court – Wilbur realizes that maybe there were a lot of things that he didn’t understand about the fae.

Shake My Feathers, I'm Breaking Loose: A Rainduo-centric fic, with Quackity/Wilbur and Niki/Hannah as ships. Niki and Wilbur are heroes that are overlooked and forgotten about. But one day they are given an assignment from the Hero Committee - posing as a pair of vigilantes to gain the attention of some villains and gain access to the secret hideout villains and vigilantes use. the difference between casual and diehard c!niki fans is so funny because casual fans are like "she's nice sometimes, mad sometimes, i think. cool character!" and diehard fans are like "she is so fucked in the head. she makes every wrong decision and every right decision. i hope she kills everyone and then dies. have you heard monologue #3 about how everyone hates her and no one is trustworthy? peak." and you know, both are good

Do y'all ever think about the parallels between "I hope you starve" and "I started baking again"?

In the first, Quackity and Schlatt coax at Niki, saying she should just join them, bake for them. Niki spits in their faces. The baking she's done before has been for causes she believes in, people she's loved. This is neither. If they want food from her, she'll never bake again.

In the second, Jack taunts that if Niki gives everything away for free, he'll just take whatever he wants from her. He goes to kill her animals, trying to goad in her into action, into revenge. She quietly counters his vengeful ideas with one of her own: peace. So many people are hurting, just like she is. She now bakes for them.

I don't have all my thoughts figured out. In both situations, people try to demand things of her, and both times, she refuses. In both situations, she references her love of baking. But they are so, so fundamentally different, in where and who she is, and who she speaks to. In whether she seeks to destroy or to create.

I love Niki Nihachu.

P.S. I have a whole other essay to write about how both of these quotes, arguably two of c!Niki's most iconic and important moments, are viewed only through other people's eyes. But that's for another time.

Divorce seems to radicalize american men in a way that needs to be studied

A divorced american man will join a right wing terror group because he didnt get custody of the kids he didnt take care of at all

An american man will have an affair with a colleague, get caught, get divorced, and join isis

Intelligent words from @junequeer

God, I love tumblr, its the only place where we can get a philosophical analysis of why divorcees crumble and it was in the tags. Like if not for the screenshot, 90% of people would miss this wisdom

Summary:

Niki is the niece of bakers, of blacksmiths and bricklayers, and she grows up far too sensible to put her trust into fairytales. She grows up, she leaves home, she steps into a newfound kingdom filled with warm, welcoming faces. She stands at one of her best friends’ side with a title that the fairytales would call princess consort, but they, with all of their revolutionary spirit, call First Lady. Listen well, all of you! he cries from his throne of gunpowder and wreckage, as he dooms their country to an early death. Niki guards her tower with a diligence unparalleled, right until it burns down around her. And then – five days after they retake L’Manberg, doused in the shadows of the land’s deepest forest – then is when she meets Captain Puffy. - Five times Niki received a kiss worthy of the fairytales, and the one time she gave one. (Or - once upon a time, there is a princess, a knight, and a dragon. I'm not telling you which is which.)

Word Count: 54,646

they say we are asleep until we fall in love is a five plus one style puffychu, told from Niki's perspective, with a fairy-tale motif. It contains angst, fluff and some good hurt/comfort content, and a lot of kisses. It's a nice, long multichapter fic you can enjoy when you're looking for a longer read.
