Hi just a thought. Both Eddie Munson and JJ Maybank died thinking that the town’ they grew up in hated him for being accused of a murder they did not commit. All i ask for in season 5 of both obx and stranger things that their names are brought to justice. and they’re given the most beautiful and correct funeral/service for their sacrifices

Sorry I just. Can't get over the additional traumas they put JJ through in season 4. And for what. For what purpose. They just killed him off; none of that extra trauma served any narrative purpose that could not have been achieved through other means. What was the point of All That if they were just gonna kill him off.

They take a severely traumatised and abused teenager. And they strip him of his entire identity which causes a complete mental breakdown. And he's finally managed to build a home but then they take it away. Including one final betrayal from the dad he still loved despite it all, to really make it hit even harder. And they make him give up his beloved motorbike; one of the few things that's truly his and that he treasures. And they have him meet his biological father who says "pft no I'm not your father" and then is like "actually yes I am but I'm only confessing to this so you'll help me; I don't actually have any interest in being your father but you dont know that yet." And then they have him be kidnapped by mercenaries and nearly killed by them, thanks to his bio father.

And then they have him EXCAVATE HIS MOTHER'S TOMB UNDER THE INSTRUCTION OF HIS BIOLOGICAL FATHER, AND CRACK HER COFFIN OPEN TO SEE HER SHRIVELLED CORPSE, WHICH VISIBLY AFFECTS HIM AWFULLY BUT THEN IS NEVER ADDRESSED AGAIN, AND THEN THEY HAVE HIS BIO FATHER STAB HIM AND DUMP HIM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN, BECAUSE WHATS ONE MORE BETRAYAL BY A DAD FOR THIS KID RIGHT??? AND THEN THEY HAVE HIM ACCUSED OF MURDER, AND THEN THEY HAVE HIM SAVE HIS BIO-DAD'S LIFE ONLY TO LATER BE KILLED BY THE GUY, BECAUSE VIOLENT DADS ARE ALL THIS KID GETS TO KNOW IN LIFE, APPARENTLY, AND THEN HE DIES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESERT AND GETS BURRIED IN A SAND DUNE.

AND HE NEVER GOT TO GO HOME. HE NEVER GOT TO PUT FLOWERS ON HIS MOM'S GRAVE OR GET JUSTICE FOR HER OR HIS EQUALLY-MURDERED GRANDFATHER. AND HE DIDNT GET TO REDISCOVER AND REBUILD HIS IDENTITY. AND HE DIDNT GET TO KEEP RUNNING HIS CHARTERS OR HOLD JOHN B'S FIRSTBORN KID OR GET A NEW BIKE OR FUCKING ANYTHING.

LITERALLY WHAT WAS THE FUCKING POINT OF ANY OF THAT EXCEPT TO MAKE HIS LAST FEW DAYS ON EARTH BE THE WORST DAYS OF HIS LIFE TO DATE. WHAT THE FUCK.

Just finished OBX s4. Yes I know I’m late to the party. I knew what was going to happen, cause the internet is full of spoilers. It was still a rough watch.

Now tell me, how the hell are they going to come back from that?! Like, I get it. You set it up so we pretty much know the next adventure. But where’s the comic relief going to come from?! Huh?! Or the impulsivity that LITERALLY forced them all into the adventure this season.

And truly, I think it’s ABSOLUTE bullshit that they planned on killing him the whole time. Come on guys. Your audience isn’t dumb.

Also, I’m really not gathering this big drama between the cast and Rudy. Love Rudy. Don’t know wtf he’s doing, but love him. The whole thing seems very childish and I really hope someone at some point speaks out. Because the audience deserves some answers.

Sorry. Rant over.

I think.

What the other anon said about people saying all his co-stars hate him. I think it's nuts. It's clearly made up. The post I linked to above proves that. I know we can't get worked up over gossip sites and this shit will always happen, but it bums me out. Because there are some people out there with limited brain cells that believe everything they read. Plus it probably gets back to him and that has got to sting you know?

I'm sure this is all not helping his mood and is also informing his public persona.

Also I am almost 30 and this is the first time I've had front row seats like this to a person's career completely exploding, and it is fascinating to see. It's like watching Nat Geo about "south London bloke's big break." All we can do is sit back and watch and hope for the best (and not be part of the problem ig)

I'm 33 and this is also the first time I've been able to witness this type of career "explosion". It is truly fascinating. Which is what prompted my original question (though I did get a little push back on it, but more helpful and insightful comments though).

I have always wanted to be in the entertainment industry, and after watching how this has seemingly changed him, I'm even more fascinated by it. I'm a therapist by trade so the psychology of Hollywood has always been absolutely fascinating to me for a very long time. So being able to witness this in real time has been such an experience.

Same anon again, that’s super fair tbh because even I still like Eddie but never felt a connection to Joseph’s other characters. Maybe you’ll get that spark back though

Its not even so much that I WANT it back. He's the first actor/celebrity that I got to watch transition INTO a celebrity. And I find it facinating.

I still think he's one of the greatest actors we will witness, and I know that's saying a lot. But he has true talent and a love for the job, or at least that's what it seems. I was/am just so intrigued (and a little confused) as to what Hollywood/fame does to people.

I agree with this. On a personal note though, I've enjoy watching his trajectory and changes. I love both versions of him.

⚠️Totally unpopular opinion coming! ⚠️

I thought the "old" Joe usually looked too unkempt, and I hated his old frumpy outfits 😂 Don't get me wrong, I loved him! But sometimes I scratched my head wondering why he left the house in certain fits. Or why he thought the messy, scrappy beard was a good idea. And why he did the tongue thing ALL the time in front of people. And I hated the ugly smile he used to do that resembled a grinch face with no lips lmao 🤣

(I know I sound like I didn't love him but I swear I did! I was just kind of ugh about a lot of his looks)

I like his look better now. The close-cropped hair suits him because it's thinning anyway. His fits lately have been *chefs kiss* imho. The new look is definitely more befitting an A-list actor, which he might actually become soon.

THAT BEING SAID

I think he is definitely more guarded in interviews, and a lot of his sparkle and goofiness has been suppressed. I understand why, I do, but it's still sad. It probably doesn't help that he's had to read so many comments from people calling him "too ugly to play Johnny Storm" and trying to cancel him over dating a problematic person. He might not be online much, but his team is watching all that stuff for sure, and stuff gets back to him. People are even submitting blinds to gossip sites to say that his co-workers hate him and his fans all turned on him (which is clearly just not true; even if a lot of og fans unstanned, there will be plenty of new ones to take their place). I'd lose some sparkle too.

Also keep in mind that he is still pretty new to this and is still figuring things out. I'm hoping he settles into a good happy medium of letting his personality out a bit more while still being cool. Time will tell I guess.

I've babbled enough for now, I hope I made some sense (can you tell I'm high and feeling super introspective? 😂). Thanks for your time! ✌🏼

Ha ha you’re totally fine. I don’t even smoke and I’m way too introspective. Obviously considering my original post lol. Oddly enough, I actually loved that piece of his style. It made absolutely no sense but for whatever reason that was charming. I don’t know maybe I just like it when people don’t really care what other people think. I definitely think he’s in the stage of trying to find balance between showing his true self and still being “Hollywood“ professional. I can also understand the people are rude and straight up assholes sometimes and if you’re not used to that kind of publicity and critique then getting used to it would have to take some time, and I can only imagine that it would be painful no matter how hard your exterior is. It sucks when Hollywood takes away and authentic person and turn them into another robot celebrity. Hopefully he can find that balance though. 🤞🏻

yeah, no I definitely think media training is a thing that has effected.

But imagine how tired you'd be going back to back to back. He's been moving nonstop. He's exhausted.

People say he doesn't hang out with his old friends, he still does but not out and about. Some of those people had fans come after them and send mean messages so now they don't want to be in the spotlight (very understandable).

I know some people are upset because he keeps canceling cons. I genuinely don't think the man who showed up to a con late and honored the people who saw him and the man who showed up when feeling sick with an ear infection to see fans, would just NOT suddenly like his fans.

Even now with small fan interactions, like in Spain for F4, he seemed so happy for the fans (but tired).

I think also his media presence since it is all managed by someone else feels very sanitized.

But for me I think he's still him, he's just stressed tired and told to chill by media people

I have to assume that being tired is definitely part of it and I feel like that is also an adjustment that takes a really long time. I guess maybe I’m a little more irritated at his “media trainings”, because they really took away what a lot of us loved about him. The fact that he wasn’t just some other celebrity, he seemed like an actual real human being.

  • Personality change from a silly, lighthearted, responsive man who was grateful for fan appreciation to a more sanitized, bored persona during media tours for his movies
  • More pap walks despite talking about craving privacy
  • Rumored to be dating someone who is pretty controversial and isn’t known for her kindness or stellar personality
  • Tons of work projects back to back are likely exhausting him (completely fair, tbh)

There’s probably more. Close fans that have followed him for years have mentioned he’s not spotted out with his old friend group anymore. My personal theory is he’s trying to appeal more to the “Hollywood folks” and parts of his personality and old life don’t line up with what works well in Hollywood. He may have had to make some choices with how he was perceived (media training to go from beloved goofball to serious actor) and who he associates with (date someone who is already famous and controversial — it keeps your name in the tabloids which keeps a buzz around your work). He’s also mentioned having anxiety, which I can only imagine gets worse when you’re working nonstop and under the public eye. Maybe he’s also depressed. I can only imagine how stressful it could be going from film to film, coding press tours, interviews, auditioning, networking, brand deals, etc. Sounds like a lot, and the reactions to recent press haven’t all been the most positive.

There’s definitely a noticeable change from 2022 to now. Ultimately, people change. We don’t know him and can only speculate why. For all we know, 2022 could have been a facade as well. It’s a bummer but also a reminder that people aren’t always who they appear to be.

All this! Very valid and highly probable.

What makes me most sad is that others (myself, and it sounds a little like you too) have had the thought that 2022 him was a facade.

Anonymous asked:

as someone with anxiety, he's seemed more tense and anxious in recent interviews. It's like he can't relax and have fun with friends like in the ST stuff. He's like OH I'm with Oscar winning actress Lupita, or award winning actor Pedro, and he's more tense. Like he doesn't wanna be too silly?

I also don't mind the shaved look but I personally think he looks better with a bit of hair and I think thats throwing me

That’s a good point too! Maybe he doesn’t want to “make a fool of himself” in front of “celebrities”.

I don’t mind the shaved head. For me is less about his appearance vs the actual energy I’m getting from him.

He's been coached, so his public persona has changed. He signed on to a huge Hollywood agency. He has a stylist. He has changed his whole look, even the way he poses for pictures, so he has a vibe that is considered more palatable for Hollywood.

We were introduced to him before all that. He was scruffy. Couldn't put a normal outfit together to save his life. The tongue thing. Didn't understand the trappings of fame. He came off as adorably bewildered all the time. Those days are over.

A lot of people are mourning the loss of that and it's ok. It's not his fault, it's just how it goes when you blow up. The version of Joe most of us fell in love with is gone. I think he's still the same guy deep down, but we won't see him anymore. It's okay to feel sad about that. People move on.

This is what most people have said. And tbh you’re probably right. And it is kinda sad I think, but more in an existential way. Like, why would someone need to change themselves so deeply to be accepted by a culture aka Hollywood. I just hope he truely is the same person he was, deep down, fundamentally. He seemed like such a kind and good natured guy. As one of the others had said, it’s like he lost the “twinkle” in his eye. And I definitely believe that. It’s a little disheartening to see fame change people.

1 his hair - it’s so boring, it gave him a lot of character and movement

2 media and pr training - he’s toning it down, he hasn’t figured out the sweet spot yet

3 full schedule - trying to do it all, he’s tired

These are great deductions! Yes to all
