How does F1 star and international heartthrob Lee Heeseung prepare for a race the night before? What the press will never know is that his good luck charm is spending the evening before with his head on your chest as your fingers softly run through his hair while the movie Cars 2 plays on the hotel TV.

Since the beginning of your relationship the two of you decided that no matter what, you did not stay in his room the night before a race. He had a strict schedule to follow and he needed to stay focused. Waking up next to you has become one of his favorite sights but his routine was not something you were going to mess with. That’s why the night before you spend as much time with him as possible.

“How do you feel about tomorrow?” You ask softly as you continue your ministrations

“Mmm worried but nothing overbearing” he says without opening his eyes.

You however… are worried. You trust him and his abilities but the fact that it’s going to be raining HARD for the entire race will never not cause a feeling on uncertainty to fill your chest. Obviously the officials will stop the race if needed but you will worry nonetheless.

“Hmm that’s good” you respond

“I know you worry but I’ll be okay” he opens his eyes and grabs your hand bringing it down so he can give it a soft kiss

“I know… i’ll worry anyways. Someone has to worry for the both of us” you say playfully

He chuckles lightly at your response “mmkay”

The rest of the evening was spent with soft conversation flowing between the two of you until it’s time for you to go back to your room.

“I’ll look for you in the crowd before the race” he says softly leaving pecks on your face as you stand at the door to his hotel room

You smile softly “i know you will”

“Goodnight love”

“Goodnight Heeseung”

The next day came quickly and now you find yourself checking your hair and makeup in the mirror before finally heading to the track.

Today is the Monaco grand prix so the narrow roads mixed with the downpour to come… let’s just say your nerves were on edge.

You took your seat in one of the boxes as you see his car head out onto the track for the formation lap.

“Please… don’t do anything stupid” you whisper out to yourself watching the lights click down.

They weren’t even halfway through the 6th lap beford the rain begin to fall. What started as small drops trickling down the window in front of you quickly changed to a much stronger shower.

You watched with bated breath as Heeseung is one of the first drivers to pit for wets. Hopefully the early change of tires will get him an advantage.

The race continued with Heeseung up in P2 behind his rival Park Jongseong in his red Ferrari. The gap getting smaller and smaller as the laps continue.

Monaco is already a tough track to overtake on but in the rain? Risky.

The race has continued through the rain with Heeseung keeping good pace with Jongseong as they near the end of the race. That is until McLaren’s Sim Jaeyun runs into the barriers and causes a red flag.

As they wait for the track to be cleared the TV catches Heeseung and his team mamd the decision to switch back to dry tires. There’s only 3 laps left in the race and the rain did slow, so if the rain holds off he’ll have an advantage, if the rain continues to pour when they get back on track, he could drop to P3 or even P4 so when they get ready to restart and the rain halted, you watch in anticipation.

As they zip back around the track on the finaly lap, you notice Heeseung aggressively trying to overtake. Your breath held as Heeseung is able to get the inside corner on turn 17 as he finally pulls ahead of the Ferrari.

By the time he crosses the finish line you’re jumping out of your chair with tears streaming down your cheeks.

When Heeseung finally embraces you he smells strongly of sweat and the champagne that was sprayed on him at the trophy presentation.

“God i’m so proud of you Hee” you say with a smile as you cup his face

“I couldn’t have done it without you love” he says leaning his forehead on yours. You savor the moment of him being so close in your hold.

“I love you Heeseung”

“I love you so much more”

Before you could even argue his statement his lips are on yours as you both smile into the kiss.

You don’t let yourself get too into it as you know he still has press to do but it you still savor the feeling of him in your hold before he’s eventually called away by his PR team.

As you return to his room to watch his interview on the TV after chatting with some mechanics you were familiar with, you catch the end of his interview.

“Heeseung what does this win mean to you” the reporter asks

“Getting my first win means the world to me. I’ve received so much support from so many people in my life and this win was all for them. It was extra special knowing that I got to have my first win with the love of my life watching” he responds with a soft smile

Your heart races at the last statement as you know it just as well as he does that you are stuck with him and you are more than happy with that.

note: this was a little short fic in honor of the start of the F1 race!
