OMG. thank you so much for this i NEED to yap about this reality.

when i’m not working at the sunrise shack down on the beach with belly and taylor or helping the pogues at the shop, i’m usually on the beach. reading and listening to music is 100x better there and the pictures i take while there are so beautiful. if i’m not laid out on a beach towel listening to mac miller or frank ocean, i’m in the water either riding the waves or swimming as a mermaid with cleo, emma, rikki, belly, and kie. watching the sea animals up close and watching how they live is so therapeutic, but we always have to bring a little competition to the table so all of us girls have races to see who swims the fastest.

definitely my best friend forever, my future brides maid, kiara. we’ve been best friends since pre-k and nine times out of ten we know each other better than we know ourselves. we both grew up as both part kook and part pogue and our bond deepens whenever we talk about trying to figure out which one we really are. if we’re missing from the group the others know we’re together, this goes for my parents too. kie and i are usually getting each other out of stuff with our parents. one night i was taking a late night swim to deal with stuff and i told my parents i’d be sleeping at kie’s. i usually call my parents to tell them i got there safely but i didn’t and i was just wanting to get away from everything so badly that i didn’t even tell kie my plans. my parents called kie and even though she didn’t even know she was supposed to cover for me but she did. she later found me and we talked about things which made me feel much better. she’s so funny and such a down-to-earth soul i never feel that i have to pretend to be someone different around her. her presence is enough to calm me down and i’m certain we’re platonic soulmates.

i feel like the hardest thing i face is learning how to deal with being part mermaid. i did script i don’t turn into my mermaid form every time i touch water because that would be too much (also i really wonder when or how would i be able to shower if i didn’t script that??) so it’s usually when i want to change my form. the thing is none of us (emma, cleo, rikki, kie, belly, and i) know how to control that for a while. we all have to learn slowly and it’s really difficult because we don’t know if we’ll ever be normal again. it really deepens our bonds and makes us stronger. the others have a difficult time adjusting to it, besides jj who thinks it’s so cool, but after sometime learning and figuring ourselves out everyone adjusts and always makes sure to protect us.

my angel baby, sarah cameron. i never expected to fall for her because after she didn’t invite me or kiara to her party, we fell off, but the three of us worked it out and we became a trio again. when we started to hang out more, just the two of us, i started to see parts of her she never showed anyone else. i became so intrigued by her and who she really was that we started hanging out even more. my crush on sarah happened pretty fast it was like we fell asleep on the beach one day and when we woke up, i saw her in a different light. literally and figuratively cause it was night time…anyways! i became more myself around her and not even on purpose like i wasn’t trying to let loose or anything it just happened. that’s when i knew this was different and i wanted to take the chance with her. i love many things about her but at the top of my list definitely has to be her smile. i never get tired of seeing it especially her dimple. she’s also extremely funny so we’re always laughing. i adore how she can take something serious and make it into a lighthearted joke, she’s so sweet and seeing her interact with others especially babies or animals is one of my favorite things in the world. she’s so gentle and caring i believe that she really is an angel on earth. one last thing that means the world to me is when i first realized i was part mermaid and was terrified of what was to come, even though didnt know what to do, she she stayed with me and we talked and laughed like nothing had changed. it made me feel like if the world was ending all i’d have to do was look at sarah and i’d feel okay.
