this is such a WILD take oh my GOD.
first of all, say her name, it's ANNIE thank you very much. she's not just 'Negan's wife' though the narrative sure as fuck wants us to believe that. her story WAS rushed and it's shitty because they literally brought her in to 'prove' Negan was a good guy, to further HIS character arc and then removed her from the narrative in the worst possible way in Dead City - she got raped to FURTHER Negan's man pain and then he LEFT HER and their kid because HE decided that she deserved better. you know who ACTUALLY deserved better?? Annie did. she deserved a proper storyline AND more time in the main show.
you know why we ship Maggie with him? because TWDU spent like SIX+ SEASONS having them cross paths over and over. forcing them to work together and letting us watch her do the emotional labour of being near the man who brutally killed her husband (which, again, so shitty to do that to her but it expanded HER character instead of his, it let us see a strong woman refusing to forgive a horrific event even as the general viewership got more and more 'Maggie's a bitch for not forgiving him' about it) the relationship between them is one hundred percent PROBLEMATIC AS FUCK but at least there's a relationship for us to SEE.
calling it racism instead of lazy writing on the side of TWD and DC that never allowed us to ship Annie and Negan properly is a wild fucking take. neggie makes sense because BOTH of their character arcs from Glenn's death forward have been about the two of them HAVING to deal with each other.
