Gettin' tired of Spotify's increasing attempts to make me pay -- so I WinDirStat'd my old music drive to find everything. (tw datagore.) The red files are flacs and the greens are mp3s - over a terabyte, babey!
Let's import that all to Plex and shuffle...
I have NO idea what this.
This guy I remember! Not this song specifically, but I think I put one or two of his on a folk playlist or two in high school.
Now, I do remember this one specifically!
Far from a deep cut, but shuffling a 10-year-old terabyte and remembering 2/3 artists and 1/3 songs ain't half bad, if I say so myself. Maybe I got lucky, but anyhoo, I'm not a pure hoarder...I listened to a heck of a lot of things back then. Two laptops...World of Warcraft/M2TW/Eu3/Vicky/DF on one, certain forums on the other...a playlist of a dozen new-to-me albums to scan through for playlistable tracks...now there was an afternoon!! I was already letting my hair get long again -- maybe I'll go all the way back...as far as I can anyway...
first step is, i gotta get my orpheus account reactivated...then find a request or two i can fill. when i started out, i bought a few cds from amazon that had gigabyte-ish bounties, and ripped them. that amount of ratio buffer pretty much let me download whatever i liked from then on...but my computer now doesn't even have a cd drive! well, i'm sure i'll figure something out.
sh-sh-shaa! who else do you know with a real pirate shirt??
Hello, who's this?? (And who left him a coffee?)
Oh...that's sad. I wish I could have met him.
Looks like someone took his glasses...rude! I wonder if it would be ok if I brought him another pair.
Shoppin' at a number store in Union City...
Wall-E!!
Neat!
HONK!
This looked cool at first, but I don't think it actually walks...the box is rather vague (j'accuse) but I think it just spits smoke when you press a remote control fob...not a bad objet d'Halloween, though.
They even had a landmine!
Water bullets??
I'd never heard of these before, but the latest in Nerftech is apparently shooting those scented gel bath bead things at people at fairly high velocity. That is...funny.
it happened to be five dollar day, which is a little much, so I didn't buy any of the above things.
I did, however, buy this:
That, sir, is a score!
$5 for a $24 value! It seems to go for $12-20 on eBay, so it wouldn't be too much of a flip, but it still would be one...I wasn't sure if I should build it or sell it, but while writing this, I remembered that my sister now works at a florist! That's her next birthday solved! Kachow!
(& according to the guy at the store, you can get the Amazon return sticker off pretty cleanly if you heat it with a hair dryer. Kachow!)
I got myself & my partner sick a few weeks ago, and I had quite a hard time trying to find regular "Tussin" -- that is, generic dextromethorphan without any acetaminophen or other mix-ins. Er, co-medications. 0/3 Walgreens/Duanes Reade had any generic in stock -- they just had Delsym, which is like $20 for a bottle this size.
This in the picture was six -- I ended up finding it at CVS eventually, along with very-on-sale Reese's Puffs and some funny & rather late Valentine's clearance items. $1 and change for 15 Slinky Juniors? Yes please! The other thing is fist-sized plastic hearts with little die-cast cars in them - 12 for $19.99 normally, at 75% clearance, so $5.
(Walgreens, of course, needs to make money somehow, because unlike AetnaCVSHealth Agglomerated, they don't own their own pharmaceutical supplier or massive health insurance company...and, apparently, unless Walgreens gets to that level of vertical integration soon, they're probably not long for this business world. So I don't blame them. But hey, CVS is from Rhode Island! So they're at least a little ok in my book despite the aforementioned anticompetitive practices...and really, you can't blame them for hustling -- you can blame the government for failing to intervene.)
I'm not entirely sure what I'll do with either the Slinkies or the hearts-with-cars, but I like having little things to give people or leave random places, and worst-case I'll leave them in my building's lobby next Valentine's. Or maybe I'll put them in the Halloween bowl...dark red hearts would take on a rather different meaning then, wouldn't they?? Though having cars inside them would make rather less (even less?) sense on Halloween. It's uh...a robot's heart! I can very easily imagine a Futurama parody of the Wizard of Oz where Bender gets a vibrating robot heart, which is later broken by the flying monkeys or something, revealing there's nothing inside but a little RC car. Actually...am I imagining things, or is there already a Futurama parody of the Wizard of Oz? Or am I thinking of a Treehouse of Horror? I'm not going to look this up -- if it exists, or is made in the future, I'm sure I'll see it sooner or later.
Anyway, asking pharmacists if they have any generic, un-co-medicated dextromethorphan is also fun for another reason: they 100% think you're gonna be sippin' on the sweet DXM...I've never tried that personally, but as with a lot of other drugs that I have no idea how other people enjoy, I would probably just fall asleep five minutes in.
Well, they've already basically ruined the Pokemon TCG Pocket meta. The Cyrus "I win" card from the last series was already a bad mechanic - it's just inherently annoying to lose instantly because of a slap-down card you have no way to defend against (other than by never having anything at less than full health, ie basically never switching anything out.
But Arceus EX is another level of bad - 3 colorless energies to do 130 with a full bench, with no drawbacks, and it's immune to all status...so between Cyrus and Arceus EX, clever switching and status effects are basically eliminated as viable strategies. Yay!
But that's not all! They added Crobat & Tyranitar this round -- but their abilities depend on having, specifically, Arceus or Arceus EX on the bench. Just...why? It's extremely limiting in terms of the decks you can use them in, obviously, and it means they'll be completely nonviable once Arceus EX is outclassed. That doesn't really matter, though, because literally no one is using them anyway, because 3-stages are too unreliable to be viable when you can just slap down Skarmorys, Dialga EXs, and Arceus EXs. Yay!
(I like Skarmory, but what the hell is an EX pokemon anyway? Just a stronger, bigger, better one? There's literally never been even an attempt at a lore explanation for these fricking things.)
Now the app is starting to have graphical glitches!! Yaay!! I love gaming in 2025!! The pump-and-dump cycle is down to literally three months...sorry for the griping, but jiminy crickets.
Official NTSI defensive driving course highlights (I didn't do anything wrong, just saving on my insurance)
(And the vehicles of today today are much safer than those of 2004 today...)
True!
Don't pass a frozen dessert truck improperly in New Jersey!

LOL
Another good reaction, if small.
Lastly, this very 2004 video had me rolling a little...
@shiftythrifting I need some help on what the heck this Disney merch item is. The weirdest part is that all the "metal" details - including the zipper on the back - are actually part of the print.
I didn't buy it, because it felt just awful, but I still want to know...
