Here are some of my stories (mostly Dragon Age)...

current fan creation landscape is kinda like if you went to a party with a homemade cake and everyone takes a slice and silently thumbs up at you with no attempt to start a conversation except for occasionally some guy sits in the corner with a tape recorder critiquing the cake as though he was a restaurant critic and another guy is handing the cake to an uber driver like "yeah i need you to find a restaurant that makes cake like this so i can have more of it" and the only person that's talked to you in 30 minutes is a very sweet little guy who was like "hey i liked your cake" and then ran away apologizing for bothering you the moment you said thank you.
someone brought a cake analysis robot to feed the cake into to determine the exact ingredients and supposedly it can spit out the exact same cake. and if you're like dude. what. then they're like well if it bothers you you should have made more cake. i'm hungry and i deserve cake. and you're like dude we're at a party.
Three months later you find out that fifty people locked themselves in a room to discuss how much they loved your cake and how they wished you made more. None of them ever told you.
so for the love of god. please tell people you liked their cake and don’t feel embarrassed about it. because then they will make more cake.
And please don't stress about whether your comment is coherent or long enough. Sometimes all that we need to hear is 'I liked this cake' or 'Yum cake!' 🥰
I'm the one at the party who, with cake still in my mouth, interrupts whatever polite conversation you might be having to tell you that your cake was delicious but also has helped me to process some lifelong trauma and with an inappropriate amount of winks I say "I see what you're doing here..." pointing to a random bit of buttercream and then help myself to another slice of cake. I do not get invited back to the next party, but we become discord friends for life.
Back to butterflies...after 3 years of trying to grow milkweed, I swear all the seeds and starter plants I've been throwing in the dirt finally decided to grow and thrive this year.
We came back after a week away to this lush (mostly) native pollinator garden, full of butterflies and their caterpillars, hummingbirds, beetles, and bees/wasps/hornets/etc. Also sooooo many baby bunnies.
Any idiot can like something thats good. It takes a real genius to like things that suck ass

MARIGOLD!!!
Merrill and Anders have different banters depending on whether Mahariel Grey Warden survived or not, I like them, it’s a very rare moment of bonding for them
my personal pick for most underrated animal is the european legless lizard, which i think is often taken to just look like a normal and rather plain snake, but if you're familiar with reptile anatomy at all it looks more like some sort of bizarre heraldic fantasy creature than basically anything else on earth
Your men are dead
Common violets, two colors. They’re starting to bloom all over now.
people who write fics. how do you feel about comments on super old ones you wrote like 2+ years ago
Bringing this out of the tags:
A fic written 2 years ago is NOT OLD. Two years is nothing. Two years ago was yesterday.
Also I don't care if a fic is 10 years old. Leave those comments!! Even if you think the author isn't active, or moved on from the fandom, I promise you it will make them smile.
I commented on a fic that was 11 years old, and there was already a response by the time I got up the next morning. Comment on the fics, please, comment on them, I promise it'll make the author's day either way
I got a comment on a fic of mine this week that just read "TWO THOUSAND AND NINE?"
I replied to it within seconds, of course. someone commented on my fic
As @pentapoda put it in this post:
(transcript: Every time someone comments on my old fic, i feel like I'm an old actor getting paid residuals. Appreciate you, old-fic-commenters. Key source of emotional income, tbh.)
