And The World Smiled Upon You

Most mortals choose who they place their faith in. Others have that decision made for them. This is a collection of things you can draw inspiration from when building your favored or divine souls. Header Image is by Jon Avon Avatar Icon is by Haclif

Hey everyone! Im Danny and I run favoredsouls. It started as a aesthetic/rp blog for a dnd blogging group here on tumblr. I have long since gone my own way. But the spirit is still there. I love dungeons and dragons and any roleplay game tbh. This blog focuses on religious character archetypes like clerics, paladins and of course its name sake, the favored soul.

Favored Soul, and to a lesser extent its 5e successor, Divine Soul are Dnds analogue to a person chosen by divine forces. Whether this is to inspire awe or fear is really up to the chosen. FS started in 3.5, where I started playing Dnd, and while I wouldnt say its particularly good compared to other classes in 3.5 it holds a special place in my heart. One of my first characterd was a FS. Think of as dnds call out to the chosen one archetype in other media.

While Favored souls were the main focus of this blog for years, i also have a deal of passion for clerics, paladins, oracles and just about any devoted or religious character. Knights too even. I like to find cool artwork through tumblr and share it around through here as well as quotes, aesthetically pleasing images, and philosophical ramblings about morality or faith. You can expect that all here and whatever nerdy stuff about dnd or my favorite medium, pathfinder, as well. Anything fantasy rpg related is bound to find its way here if im lucky.

Sometimes i go inactive for days or weeks. Just the rigors of life and how much time i have to spend on my phone.

But with explanation aside welcome to favoredsouls! The world smiles upon you!

“Here I prove myself right. Here I wager that, given power over physics and the trust of absolute freedom, people will choose to build and protect a gentle kingdom ringed in spears. And not fall to temptation. And not surrender to division. And never yield to the cynicism that says ‘everyone is so good that I can afford to be a little evil’.”

Endless optimism is a foolish way to look at the world, unable to see the strife and suffering. Endless pessimism will never make anyone happy, especially not you. You need to take the good and the bad, the dark and the light, the full and the empty. Hummina hummina hummina

When the human known to us as Christ arrived in the underworld, gods and shades alike were horrified. It was always a big deal when demigods arrived in the underworld, but this one had died so brutally, a young man, not even old enough to grow a beard, tourtued to death at the will of his own divine parentage, the blood dripping from his shade's hands.

The high gods of the underworld brought him up to their tower to figure out what happened. Christ had recoiled from them at first, thinking they were Devils, but had to take Anubis's hand to ascend the tower's steps, as his legs were badly wounded. The gods of the dead looked at him with both sympathy and horror, it was the first time a he had seen a god look at him with either of those emotions.

Hades swore that this was his brother's doing, but even then it crossed a new line. The description of a god impregnating a young girl in Bethlehem fit what Hades knew of Zeus, but to harm his own son in such a way, as part of a ploy to try to gain all of Rome for him alone, had proven his brother's reign growing darker. Still, he took mercy on the young man, promising him at least three days safety in the underworld without his father trying to claim him again. Hades wondered if the poor girl knew when she held her child that he was born to suffer and die, just as the mothers of great heros knew their destiny. Hades hoped Chrsit would have a chance to stay longer, his wife would return in the fall, and he had the same kind eyes as her, she would probably like to know him.

Hel came to comfort Christ once he had a chance to rest. She helped tend his wounds, and pet his head, and for the first time christ was held by a divinity that didn't expect anything from him. And she told him stories of her father to cheer him up after meeting with such a horrible fate. And she told him that no father should ever do such a thing as what his father had done to his child, that if she had known in time she would have saved him. And she let him be comforted as a human, instead of being a lord of all humanity. And for a momment he didn't have to be the son of god who felt alone while bleeding and dying, but the son of the carpenter Joseph who had been reminded of home when he felt the wood of the cross.

He wasn't allowed to stay, his father wanted him back, back to be the bleeding prince of a new and lonely kingdom. And the underworld wept for him, not because the underworld was deprived of Christ, but because Christ was deprived of the underworld.

daily affirmations: you are isildur’s heir, not isildur himself. You are not bound to his fate.

I was going to make a "same braincell" joke but honestly reading this over and over again was actually very moving and I might need to go lie down.....maybe the real affirmations were the friends we made along the way etc etc

Every summer I forget how much I fucking love spiders I’ve drunk one every day this week

Drinking spiders??!

You put ice cream in a glass and pour soft drink over it. It creates a thick layer of delicious foam on top of a sweet, creamy drink with ice cream in it.

And yes I did attempt to get a picture by googling “Australia spider” like a fucking moron.

I think that’s called a float in the states. Although we usually plop the icecream into the glass after the soda. Similar effect though.

We wouldn’t be able to call it that because the word is way too easy to confuse with a floater, which is a meat pie floating in a bowl of pea soup. It is every bit as delicious as a spider though. I should get some pies and pea soup.

I would like to announce that this is not a standard Australian food, it’s exclusively a South Australian one and the rest of Australia is just as appalled as the rest of the world.

It’s not our fault that the rest of Australia is incorrect about food.

“average person eats 3 spiders a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in South Australia and BADLY misinterpreted our survey question,,
