Rewatching YOI reminded me that I love Yakov Feltsman. Extremely divorced cranky old coach who spends more of the series being justifiably pissed because the greatest athlete he ever trained just threw his career away for True Love (ie, he ran away to Japan to find a boy he met at a party six months ago who danced with him while he was drunk off his ass and then ghosted for half a year.) He’s So Mad at Victor. Everyone knows he’s So Mad at Victor.

And yet. When Victor has a crisis and needs Yakov to help him? Yakov immediately steps up. No question. No conditions. No ‘only if you return to professional skating and stop the bullshit.’ No, he just does it. He’s still mad, but Victor is his kid, and Yakov is going to be there for him when it matters.

Good guy Yakov. He’s a grouchy old man but he loves his kids.
