what I like most about him is that he's a red herring villain in the sense that he clearly is designed to look evil (he looks like that because he got injured in the war) but once you see his actions in the movie he's only helping people. his oxygen destroyer genuinely is the device that helps defeat Godzilla. He was actually extremely reluctant to use it because he (correctly) assumed that it would catch the eyes of Cold War nations who would use it against people.
plus there's a subplot about him being arranged to marry the main female lead but she's in love with a different man. instead of being the obvious villain again about the situation, he acknowledges she'll be happier with a spouse of her choosing rather than an arranged marriage
I just love this guy from a 1954 movie looks like a complete cliche of a mad scientist but his character is actually a subversion of a lot scientist villain tropes
