The way Siuan says “No, no, no. You don’t get to do that. Not to me.”
Siuan, whose entire life consists of ordering people around and exercising her might and authority. Siuan, who has to be strong and calculating in every sentence she utters. Siuan, who we usually see speaking slowly, thoughtfully.
Her plea to Moiraine has the form of an order, a reprimand. It could be commanding. She uses words that in her everyday life would come from her Amyrlin voice without a second thought. But her tone is gentle and desperate. Coaxing.
It’s not until the command is over, until it’s personal, until she says “not to me” that her voice becomes insistent and forceful.
With Moiraine, Siuan can so fully shed her Amyrlin persona, the person she has been every single days for decades, so that even when acting on impulse and instinct, jumping up to physically catch Moiraine before she can flee, it’s Siuan that emerges.

Normally, this part was easy. Hell, it was the best part of any damn day. Coming back to Moiraine was like breathing after holding your head underwater too long. It was like the first real gulp of air that reminded you you were still alive. Just one glance, one of the small, secret smiles… that was all it took and the weight Siuan carried would fall clean off her shoulders.
