Mom’s advice to caedsexuals:

My mom is a survivor of SA and so am I. Hence why I relate to the term caedsexuality.

I asked her to give me an idea for today’s positivity blog and she told me this:

“An unfortunate event in life is only an event, that, if seen in proportion to the time you still have here on this earth, it wouldn’t be fair to let it determine the rest of your life. Whether you’re ace because of trauma or because of some other reason, you still deserve to love and be loved (in the broadest sense of the word)”.

For me, before I knew I was arospec, the last time I ever tried to “date” was a few years ago. I was going out with this dude and when he called me to break up I just said “oh ok, if you don’t mind imma hang up cause I have to go study for a test tomorrow” and then I just went on with my day. Happy new year to all aroacespec people out there, but especially to the ones who:

  • People tend to disregard their identity by saying that it’s a “phase”
  • Aren’t outside of the closet yet
  • Are still discovering their aroacespec identity
  • Feel alone during these holidays because society has let them believe that having a romantic partner is the only way to not be “alone”
  • Don’t have aroace friends or an aroace community in their country because it is not a well known term there
  • Don’t feel safe at home during these holidays and can’t come out to their family because of the fear of being judged or rejected
  • Have to pretend to be allos around their family members for whatever reason, and are always annoyed by the common question of “and when are you getting a boyfriend/girlfriend or getting married or having children?”

I’m here for you, you are not alone. We’re all part of this beautiful community. Happy new year y’all!

Also, this is my first new year out and proud and I’m just so happy :)

2024 recap:

Me on December 2023:

  • Stressed about finishing uni
  • Unemployed
  • Single another year, starting to think there might be a problem with me
  • Low self esteem and not feeling comfortable in my own body
  • Feeling alone because of toxic friendships in Uni
  • With hyperfixations on multiple shojo anime

Me on December 2024:

  • Graduated from lawschool, now stressed about finishing my thesis
  • With a job offer secured (it’s my dream job)
  • Came out as aroace (yep, that was the “problem”)
  • Came out as agender, got an androgynous haircut, finally feeling beautiful
  • Went to Orlando with my little sister
  • Started a Tumblr account and met wonderful people that are now my friends!
  • With a hyperfixation on Radioapple since February (and it’s not going away any time soon)

These past few months have been rough on my mental health. I have dealt with many crisis, feeling how my stability crumbles. However, yesterday I was looking back at everything I have achieved this year and it made me wanna cry of happiness.

It is in moments like this that I recall Jimbei’s wise words when he was dealing with a traumatized Luffy:

“Don’t think about what you’ve lost, think about what you still have left”.

I wish to you all a happy new year, and may this 2025 be amazing for y’all. 💜

Would someone care to explain how does a qpr usually work? And like what are their requirements or characteristics?

If you are an aroacespec and currently have a qpp, I would love to hear about your story and experience if you don’t mind.

Im just curious.

Edit: I’ve researched the term already and have a rough idea of what it means (not so much what it entails tho). So, what I’m looking for is someone to explain how it usually works in practice.

I have an unfortunate response to one of your tag questions. How does it naturally occur? It doesn't. Because media has lied to you about the way relationships work. Relationships don't happen naturally.

You don't one day just randomly leave work, go to a restaurant and be on a date. There are communications that happen ahead of time. Someone asks, there's discussion of what the date means, where you're going to go, what you're going to do, etc.

Friendships happen approximately the same way and therefore so do QPRs.

Now, if you want to initiate one, it's a very similar process to dating. Go to someone you know, ask them to spend some time with you. Then once you know each other a little better, when you're thinking you might end up serious, or you want to be exclusive, just like you would with a standard relationship, you talk. You tell them what you want/need and remember you don't get to control their actions or feelings toward it.
