Aris—Famine, who carries a set of balancing scales (for weighing rations in a famine) which are also seen as the scales of Justice and Law. Which is Aris’s job. He makes sure that they Cannot Cheat their way out, they have to do it correctly. Which is insane considering how much WCKD fucks it up later.
Teresa—Pestilence, which was originally Conquest, who went forth conquering and to conquer (👀👀👀👀 at WCKD and their global eugenics). Conquest got sort of blended into War and became Pestilence instead, with a bow and quiver of poisoned arrows that spread sickness.
Thomas—Death. Hardly needs explaining but what is noteworthy is the inevitability of it all. Both on a large scale (WCKD was always going to do the Trials. They were always going to trigger the end. There were other Mazes before "our" Maze) and on an individual scale (Thomas was always going to resist. He and Teresa were always going to fall apart). This was always going to happen. It's just their bad luck it happened to them.
i just also like the fact that Thomas as Death is such a doubl edged sword because he is the one coming a-knocking at WCKD’s door but also everyone he touches and gets close to either dies or gains horrible losses

the unabomber was pedantic about idiomatic phrases like "have your cake and eat it too" and rephrased it to "eat your cake and have it too" (which to be very fair makes sense). fast forward to when he starts writing manifestos. he uses the phrase word for word in his pedantic style and his brother (who has been keeping his eyes on the unabomber shit for obvious reasons) notices the phrase and is like "oh fuck that's my fucking brother no one else fucking says that" and calls in an FBI tip
