apr 17, 2025 | the climbing teams successfully hiked Chukhung-Ri today. this tops their altitude out at 5,530m putting them above base camp for acclimatisation. AD spoke to base camp on the radio today as well.
tomorrow, they will be taking the route through the Khumbu Glacier to Lobuche.
Bonus [non-Darby] Everest Update
apr 16, 2015 | the base camp team (including Zach & Michelle) made it to Lobuche! they are close enough that they can see the base camp tents in the distance. tomorrow, they head off to Gorak Shep, where they will stay for a few days on their last stop before base camp.
i’m texting my mom about the new dark side of the ring, letting her know Ricky Steamboat is on the Tony Atlas episode that’s premiering rn.
she of course starts telling me fun facts & stories about their body-building days together. like 5 mins later the interviewer guy says to Ricky that “not many people know” about how they competed at the same time.
of course my fucking mother was there.

apr 15, 2025 | the group had an active rest day today in Pheriche. they hiked up Nakarsthang Ri (5,050m), which took 5 hours.
tomorrow, Darby's team is separating from the trekking team. they are heading to Chukhung, while the trekking team heads to Lobuche. this will put Darby's team a little less than 7 miles / 11 km away from base camp.

*note: there is no Darby-specific info today, unfortunately. it’s already almost 7am on the 15th in Nepal at the time of this post, so i expect there will be an update on his private team for the 14th & 15th combined.*
apr 14, 2025 | a lot to report on today. tl;dr: the group made it Periche, after stopping in Pangboche where everyone received a blessing. they also celebrated one of the base camp trekkers’ birthdays & Nepali new year (Bikram Sambat). it's the first day of 2082 there!
they are now at 4,270m in altitude, & over halfway to base camp! only about 14 km / 9 miles remain.

apr 13, 2025 | today the group hit 4,000m in altitude, & saw Everest (+ Lhotse & Nuptse) for the first time. after hiking for over 8 hours, they made it to Phortse. they visited the Tengboche Monastery, which is right next to where they're staying.
in the teahouse, they played "intense rounds" of Uno & had lattes as they watched snow falling outside, before settling in for the night. tomorrow, they head for Pangboche.
