HOW THE FUCK DO U MIMIC THE PAPER PLEASE ART STYLE š
hello oomf, here is how I do it
my canvas size is 3072 Ć 2304, the brush I'm using is dot on ibispaint and it's pixel size is 18
when I first studied the papers please artstyle I've noticed a few things which is harsh shadows, line weight/bold lines, and sticking to four color palletes
when i first started studying it I would recommend tracing a character from the papers please game to understand the line weight, for example we'll use calensk
you can practice a few times till you're used to it, but moving on to actually drawing the oc
this is used as a crutch but i recommend using an npc from the games that has a feature similar to your oc and try to trace over it, it doesn't have to be 100% the same
a thing to keep in mind for papers please is that the more there are harsher shadows/how much the shadows highlight the wrinkles/eyebags , the more older the characters look, here is a comparison
for characters with lighter hair/highlights, and more lighting [?] from the skin like these two for example
for scars you can take advantage of the lighting for the skin and try to scribble till it looks like a scar, don't use the darker colours from the lineart
moving on,
I ALMOST FORGOT TO ADD but the most important thing is the eyes, they're often times wide rectangles with pupils. sometimes depending on your character they won't have eyes due do it being covered by shadow!!
most common places for light to be on your oc's face is the nose, cheek, and chin!! but it depends on your oc's features ofc
before drawing the clothes, draw the base of the shoulders first so you'll have that overlapping effect with clothes near the chin like this
you then make another layer to draw the clothes on, but do note, unlike the skin the clothing doesnt exceed more than two color palletes and remember bolder line art and line weight!!
sometimes you could even just have certain clothing belonging to your oc be darker like this, which is similar to the skin
and now tada !! you have your oc drawn in the pp artstyle, if you need me to explain more or have any questions feel free to go ask or go straight into my dms !!
