Mia sighs.
"I can't believe my parents out did us today... like we didn't even get to prank them." She sits next to Nate with her head on his shoulder. "And the orange juice prank? That was just mean."
"It was all mean."
“I can’t believe I was outdone. I can’t ever show my face in public again” Nate sighs, an arm around MiaMs shoulders
"I mean we can still do it... right?" She looks at him while turning her ring on her finger. "I mean... it would be unexpected since it's not on April Fools."
“Ultimate prank. I’m in” he grins, kissing her on the top of her head “No one out-pranks me, let’s fix it”
"We can do it on my birthday... after everyone leaves, of course... or then it will be real." She blushes.
“Mhm, this is about pranking your dad mostly. It just needs to be believable” he doesn’t notice her blushing
"Okay... so... are we going to get married later?" She asks hesitantly. "Not like anytime soon... but like... in a few years? Maybe after I get out of school?"
Nate thinks about it for a second before nodding “Yeah, don’t see why not. I’d love to”
"So... are we really technically engaged?" She is trying to clarify. "Or is it a promise of engagement?"
“It’s a promise… anything else just feels a long way off. But right now I know I love you and want to be with you, and that’s enough for me”
"It's enough for me too." She kisses him. "Seeing my parents like they are together... I want that for us too." She pulls away and lays her head on his shoulder. "They are so happy even with all the crazy stuff going on."
“They’re really sweet together, they’re absolutely couple goals” he agrees, moving a hand up to absently play with her hair
"I'm thinking we might have to up the prank a little bit though... Just in case his reaction doesn't go like we think."
"We need to be dramatic about it. Could you start crying? That would sell it"
She works up tears instantly. "Like this?" She sniffs with tears rolling down her cheeks. "I can cry at will... Because some of my missions... required me to act like I was a lost kid." She gets into it well enough.
"The only bad part is that he can tell the difference between this and my real cry."
"Well its really fucking convincing, you're gonna make me cry." he shrugs "Its just gotta fool him long enough for the prank to work"
"Right... we can do it.... you'll definitely have to do the whole get on one knee thing."
"Oh I plan to. I have a whole speech prepared"
"Are you going to leave it as a surprise, or are you going to tell it to me beforehand?" She smiles. "I'd leave it a surprise so you actually get the real reaction... you know... so he can't tell with the crying."
"I'm keeping it a surprise then, I can be romantic when I want to" he teases, elbowing her playfully
"Okay, Sharps... I believe you." She wraps her arms around his neck. "I love you."
"Love you too" he tilts her chin up so he can kiss her again, one arm wrapping around her waist "Like a whole lot, you have no idea..."
"Can you show me?" Mia asks with a smile.
“Hm?” Nate mutters questioningly, moving his head to kiss along her cheek and jaw
She lets out a little moan as she falls backwards on the couch, taking him with her. "I love you so much."
“Love you too” he mutters against her skin, propping himself up above her with one hand “You’re fucking perfect…”
James had snuck down into the basement, and now he can't unsee what he sees. He crosses his arms. "Really?"
Nate let’s put a squealing noise that sounds like a small animal being stepped on and falls off the sofa onto the floor. He hits his head with a thump, his face bright red
“How long were you standing there, asshole?” He grumbles, rubbing the back of his head and wincing
"Long enough to stop you two from going to far." James eyes him. He knows what's up and he can see his daughter blushing furiously. "At least wait until everyone else is sleeping." He shakes his head.
"Dinner is ready." He turns around and then goes up the stairs. He waits until he gets halfway up before smirking.
“Wasn’t even gonna…” he mutters and shakes his head, as if that’ll convince James, or at least the back of James’s head. He sighs, standing up and looking very embarrassed, eyes planted firmly on the floor
Mia is so embarrassed she turns over on her stomach and hides her head in one of the throw pillows. "I'm going to die."
“One of these days I’m gonna throw something really heavy and breakable at your dad’s head” Nate pulls his hoodie up over his face, still bright red
She hugs him from behind. "You do know he has eyes on the back of his head, right?" She buries her head between his shoulder blades.
"Yeah, what a jerk" Nate takes one of Mia's hands, squeezing gently "Come on, we might as well eat something if he's gonna be a prick about it"
"There's always later... when we watch Star Wars." She sneaks a mischievous smile to him as he pulls her up the stairs.
That makes him grin, the previous awkwardness lessening a bit as they reach the dining room
Dinner goes by a little awkwardly as Mia's father keeps eyeing the two of them as though they were anything but innocent. The worst part is that she knows he's faking the overprotective father thing.
"He's totally doing this for his amusement." She leans over to Nate, whispering in his ear as she eats the mashed potatoes. "He's trying the whole normal Dad thing."
“You know, it’s almost endearing.” He mutters back, his mouth half full. “Almost, key word. It’s really annoying”
"Everyone online thinks he's intimidating, so he's been kinda... overcompensating on the Dad-ness." She whispers knowing full well her father can hear them clearly. "He's trying."
“Hmph. You know even Cat didn’t believe me when I said he’s a complete softie. Cat. So I kinda get it.” He almost chokes on his food and needs to take a second and a sip of water before continuing “Still… really annoying”
"I know... but it's kinda fun to watch him struggle." She grabs his hand and gives it a squeeze under the table.
He squeezes her hand back, going back to his food with a slight smile on his face and trying ignore the glare from James’s direction
When they are done, Mia lets Nate drag her back down to the basement where they plop down on the couch again.
"Well... that was an exciting game of who can glare the longest."
Mia sighs.
"I can't believe my parents out did us today... like we didn't even get to prank them." She sits next to Nate with her head on his shoulder. "And the orange juice prank? That was just mean."

It has come to my attention that I am 'Scary'.
Is it the jokes? I can quit. They aren't fully downloaded into my concious yet.
Lets see.
- You run a mafia
- You're a former HYDRA assassin
- Literally best sniper out of a ton of people
So yes to the average person, you're scary
Okay, so I have a few things that make me look scary. But I'm really not. I'm pretty fun. At least my kids think I am.
Yes, you sweet bear :3
Oh yeah... he's about as fun as any normal Dad.

You're scared of me?
Okay, yeah, now that I think about it, I can see why.
I'm scared of you too
I'm not that scary.
Am I?
I'm trying to be less scary. I'm even telling Dad Jokes now.
Does this help?
...you're very scary
He's literally a burnt marshmallow guys... I should know... he's my dad. He's crispy on the outside, really soft on the inside and to get him ungrumpy... just feed him chili dogs.
Just steer clear of his Dad Jokes... they're pretty awful.
I have been severely attacked by those dad jokes
Trust me... it's worse living with him...
