While it's important to point out how transphobia and transmisogyny factor into the negative responses to June Egbert, it's also important to point out all the ways in which it is just plain misogyny. To be a female character is to be lessened for many people, they see a character becoming a women as a flattening of a complex character because woman can only be surface-level characters in their minds. June Egbert can only be the removal of representation for them because in all the ways in which men are allowed to be complex and multifaceted women are an absence. June is made invisible, removed from the public eye
And of course we all know the misogyny reserved for girls who get in the way of a popular slash ship... Now imagine if that girl is the transfem version of one of the boys in the slash pairing and the ship is literally every mlm pairing that character was a part of. That is truly the formula for a level of misogynistic backlash many of us just aren't ready for...
