It was a dark day when I realized that the Anne Rice haters on Twitter don't point to specific problems because they can't, because the average 20-something can't read genre fiction. Even to hate it, even to mock it. Like they can't read a book. Functionally illiterate. They cannot read a book and then know from it the events that took place in it. Can't read a book.

Like trust me, people who can read them have lots of stuff we razz them for (though I do think most of them are sincerely good). But they can't, because they can't read them.

Like making a joke about Flavius' rough week wouldn't make sense to them because they can't read Pandora (which is the easiest prose of any of them I think) and from reading Pandora, keep track of how quickly events take place. As a genuine critique it doesn't scan to them and they wouldn't be able to make it because they can't read Pandora.

i think if twitter went down, TV writing would get at least 30% better
