imo the only interesting thing that came out of gwuncan was the demonstration of how circumstantial (for lack of a better word i can think of right now) most of the gen 1 relationships are. like a lot of the relationships formed because people were on the same team rather than compatibility if that makes sense (except lyler lol)
it’s an interesting demonstration of high school dynamics to me like oh yeah duncney only happened because they were placed on the same team and were forced to interact. they probably never would’ve given each other the time of day if that didn’t happen. bridgette and geoff only work as a couple because the aftermath show forces them to be together all of the time otherwise they would’ve probably just stayed a summer fling etc etc
and i guess where i’m going with this is that i think gen 1 had more realistic portrayals of high school romance? i know some people do marry their high school sweethearts but it makes sense to me that some couples on the show lose interest when getting to have new experiences, it’s a similar feeling to leaving high school and experiencing college in a different city.
i just think it’d be interesting if the show explored other relationship dynamics like “oh yeah we broke up when the show ended because it was just us having fun/wouldn’t work long term/didn’t want long distance/etc” or them realizing they are more compatible with a different contestant without the weird cheating subplots ya know what i mean
