Dave Cockrum's design work for a proposed model of the Metaluna Mutant from the film This Island Earth (1955).
Aurora Models, which had a successful line of horror/monster/science fiction models in the 1960s, revived the line in the mid-1970s. The company wanted additional figures to add to the line, and Cockrum was hired to design them.
Due to some unfortunate advertising, and subsequent bad publicity, the revived model line was soon cancelled. The Metaluna Mutant model never saw the light of day.
