AU in which Hashirama grows the Forest of Death long before Konoha. He just trains with his Mokuton and turns the forest more deadly every time he tries out a new jutsu until the whole forest becomes a habitat for lots of poisonous plants and massive animals not even shinobi would want to take on if they don’t have to. At some point, neither Senju nor Uchiha can cross the forest anymore, thus the battles between them die out and they end up at peace anyway. Entirely on Hashirama’s accident.

Or, the version I prefer: Hashirama creates the Forest of Death between their clan settlements on purpose to stop their fights. If Madara won’t rekindle their friendship and accept peace, then he doesn’t deserve to have Hashirama as his enemy either.
