Can we maybe start toning down the hyperbolic and vitriolizing rhetoric now? Because calling a man worse than Hitler for eight years has clearly done nothing good for the country. I'm not saying that caused this but it definitely didn't help. And we all got fucking lucky that Trump seems to be okay. If he'd been killed, I don't want to think about what might have happened. We're sitting in a fucking powder keg and we all need to cool off before this blows.

If you're one of the ones saying that Biden needs to be investigated/impeached because "his rhetoric caused this", you are part of the problem and are also using the exact same line the Dems did when they tried to pin January 6th on Trump. If you're one of the ones saying that Trump himself is somehow responsible for this, you are part of the problem and also should get your head examined.

@generallemarc man I love you but this isn't the same thing. Biden called half the US that voted for Trump "maga extremists", and has told people that Trump is a threat to this country and it's "democracy". That's propagation of fear. And he's far from the only one to do it. Requesting an investigation isn't remotely the same thing as 8 years dehumanizing the other side.

Trump's side has spent the same amount of time saying rather similar things. Remember #stopthesteal? Remember the multiple lawsuits to stop votes from being certified based on "hey, if we assume guilt and then do a bunch of digging maybe we'll find something?" Remember Trump's insistence that Pence had powers he straight-up, objectively did not have? There's already a member of Congress blaming Biden for this-granted, he's a first-termer with a habit of saying provocative shit on social media because apparently he wants to be the conservative AOC, but that's still a problem. And he doesn't mean it like you mean it, he's saying straight up that Biden ought to be investigated; he was the one I was using for my example ^^^.

Refusing to recognize the results of a free and fair election used to be exclusive to the Democrats, but Trump decided that anything they could do he could do better, and that goes for this whole campaign. None of what I'm saying should be taken as a defense or excusing of Biden and, let's be real here, the Hasan-watching, DSA-supporting, Ilhan Omar-idolizing woke mob that he tacitly allows and enables to keep going after the right because they've brainwashed themselves into being perpetually loyal to him, the man they believe is complicit in genocide, because Orange Man Bad. But none of what they've done has much bearing, if any, on what bad elements on the right have also done. They don't cancel out and if one is worse than the other that other doesn't magically stop being a problem. That's the left's way of thinking, not ours.

And all of this is true regardless of if the shooter is a card-carrying DSA member or a crazy guy off his meds. Bad behavior doesn't cancel out other bad behavior, even at extreme levels like this. And this wouldn't be the first politically-motivated attack on a politician this election round. Remember, Paul Pelosi's attacker was a far-right nutjob, but that doesn't magically make all Republicans attempted murderers in the making. I'm sorry for rambling so much(it is 4:30 am and I've been titrating off my meds for over a month), but I feel like I need to make this as clear as I can before things devolve into everyone calling everyone else a Nazi or a terrorist or whatever.

I know this will sound bad but I’m sorry why are we holding elections just for GOP voters to not vote and for Libs to win and take everything again?

take the hint

cancel or overturn elections

I don’t care what everyone says

we live in a broken democracy

we MUST take initiative and force the party to do what we want and cancel and overturn elections

Trump needs to do it or he’s not doing enough

be a little hardcore

I’m tired of this “oh peaceful power” and “play by the rules” F THE RULES! Our leaders are to soft

If we do this we don't have a republic anymore and, sorry, but I like living in this republic. Tearing everything down is a childish impulse that solves nothing. We are nowhere near the point of needing another revolution in this country. The system, mostly, works. We just need to shore it up.

I am honestly frustrated that every time a party loses an election, there are always INEVITABLY people on both sides acting like we need a revolution.

Like fucking hell, get the fuck over it! You can always win the next election, it's not going anywhere just cuz a candidate isn't blue/red, not even if they act like the biggest idiotic wannabe dictator like Trump!

Exactly and as in all occupied countries a resistance forms and fights back in any way they can.

Imagine being this stupid. Imagine being this idiotic, this privileged, that you truly believe your first world democracy is an "occupied country" and that your slacktivist tumblr posting about "resistance" will do anything other than gratify your deranged beliefs. There are countries dealing with actual tyranny out there. Countless thousands of Iranians are suffering in jail for daring to tell their government to stop killing women for not wearing hijabs, and yet here you are talking like you're them because your party lost a fucking election. You think we're "occupied"? Then why did the Supreme Court election in Wisconsin not go Trump's way? Why isn't Matt Gaetz attorney general right now? Why is Congress constantly passing bipartisan legislation every single week they bother to show up?

This is not an administration, this is a regime.

Things said by evil extremist Republicans about Biden when he won an election they wanted him to lose, but also good guy right-side-of-history Democrats about Trump when he won an election they wanted him to lose.

A self-confessed Elon Musk hater was filmed issuing a groveling apology after he was tracked down and confronted for allegedly carving a swastika onto a Tesla.

Chadd Ritenbaugh, 55, was slapped with a slew of charges in Pennsylvania after being confronted by the furious Tesla owner over the alleged incident outside a Planet Fitness in Doylestown, cops said.

The vehicle’s camera captured a vandal parking next to the Tesla just before 9:30 a.m. March 24 before suddenly jumping out, glancing around and crouching down to mark the car.

The Tesla owner only found out when they got home and found “scratches in the shape of a swastika” on the side of the car, leading him to the footage of the vandal at work, police said.

It showed the suspect going to the gym, and “Planet Fitness staff was able to identify the suspect by his membership” after he scanned in with his card, cops said.

Before Ritenbaugh was arrested, he was filmed being confronted by the Tesla owner, who repeatedly asked if he scratched a swastika into the car with a key.

“I’m sorry, I have nothing against your car, and I have nothing against you,” Ritenbaugh could be heard saying meekly.

“Obviously, I have something against Elon Musk,” he said of the Tesla owner.

At one point, Ritenbaugh denied using a key to etch the markings and instead insisted he’d only used a crayon — blaming it on him being “misguided.”

Ritenbaugh was booked on criminal mischief, harassment and disorderly conduct charges.

The shameless ordeal is just the latest in a spate of vandalism attacks targeting Tesla owners and dealerships across the country.

Much of the violence against the electric car company has been fueled by Musk’s new role as President Trump’s main cost-cutter with the Department of Environmental Efficiency.

very funny to me when people act like animal farm and 1984 are revolutionary anti government texts that the Powers That Be dont want you to read when they have literally been a part of every standard middle/highschool english lit cirriculum in the usa and beyond for decades. precisely because theyre such convenient primers to propagandize that Commies = Bad. the government is quite literally making kids read them

also, animal farm is not just anti-communist, but anti-revolution in general. the whole point of the story is if you overthrow your oppressor the new order will just become the same as the one it replaced! the story offers no suggestion of how the animals could have overthrown the farmer without the pigs becoming exactly like them, it just seems to begin and end with "never overthrown your oppressor because you'll end up right back where you started anyways." bleak and ugly story.

Not to be super English major about it, but Animal Farm was NOT an “anti-revolution” story. According to Orwell, it was inspired specifically by the Russian Revolution that led to the Stalinist regime. The story of animal farm is essentially what happened to the Russian people: they had a revolution against the tyrannical ruling class, only for the very people who had promised them freedom to turn into tyrants themselves.

The moral of the story is not “don’t have a revolution,” it’s that you should always be suspicious of those who promise you this utopian idea of freedom while still aiming to maintain power. The pigs never wanted to actually make everyone free, they just wanted to be the ones in charge. The novel details every small instance of the farm sliding further and further into fascism until it’s too late for anyone to do anything about it.

And 1984 doesn’t have much to do with communism at all. It’s about totalitarianism and fascism. There’s nothing pro-capitalist about the book. A totalitarian government like Big Brother’s could exist in either a capitalist or communist society. The point is the control they have over their people, and how important the flow of information is to that control.

George Orwell literally risked his life fighting fascists, so I think it’s pretty unfair to reduce his books to “anti-commie” propaganda. He was intensely critical of any state that maintained too much power over its people, and at the time, one of the worst examples of that was the recent communist revolution in Russia, which deposed a monarchy to install a dictator in its place.

orwell didn't pick up a gun to shoot fascists in spain alongside anarchist revolutionaries and write The book on it just so y'all can pretend the man favored inaction and the status quo.

#people saying that anti-stalinist texts are anti-communist#are fucking telling on themselves

No, they were anti-communist. Orwell was a libertarian socialist who saw exactly what communism was like in Spain long before almost any other Westerner. He knew it went deeper than Stalin, even if he was the worst of the worst at the time(Mao having yet to become history's greatest murderer). It was right there in the title of Goldstein's book, which was either a legitimate attack on the world order or the world order telling on itself to lure in dissidents-"The Theory and Practice of Oligarchic Collectivism." Orwell's ideals were to defend things like voting and civilian firearm ownership, things no communist would ever accept.

Sucks for you that communism is in fact bad, and that those books are wonderful expositions on how and why. Orwell won, you lost, get over it.

Finland actually made this not true with different tiers of fines based off of the person's income, I think the UK just started crushing cars that were double parked too many times too.

Such a thing violates the concept of equal treatment under the law. If a punishment is tuned to fit not the crime, but the person committing it, then all citizens of the country are no longer equal in the eyes of whatever law is doing this. And if one law discriminates between citizens to assign them greater or lesser punishment for the same crime, that's one law too many.

I don’t think fines should exist unless they’re in percentages. Like you do something wrong and they take a percentage of your wealth

So you think the only types of fines should be those that treat citizens differently, that the only types of fines should discriminate among citizens and punish some differently than others. Why?

Let’s say that people do a minor crime like shoplifting. If a 20 year old is guilty of it and he gets 2 years then boom. He gets out at 22. If someone with 3 months to live is found guilty of that, and gets the same sentence, that’s a life sentence. Can you understand the same concept but with wealth?

No, for a variety of reasons. First of all, a society that sentences people to multiple years in jail for shoplifting is a nightmare police state where the concept of justice does not exist. Secondly, if we were to make that more realistic by turning it into actual theft by hiking up the value of stolen goods and reduce the jail sentence to something like 90 days, well, if you have three months to live and you don't want to spend them in jail, then you shouldn't be stealing shit out of stores. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Justice is always depicted as blind for a reason-equality before the law must either be absolute or nonexistent. There is no in-between, no justifiable factor for altering sentences for the same crime that isn't something involved directly with the crime itself(ie, the difference in sentencing between killing someone in a bar fight when you didn't mean to versus a pre-planned murder).

Yeah but I feel like fines for rich people eventually just becomes “how much it costs to do that thing”

Except that's not how fines work. If you rack up enough misdemeanors you will eventually start facing more serious charges. Get enough speeding tickets, you lose your license. Shoplift enough times, and maybe you will be facing actual jail time. You seem to think there's no provision in the law for people who commit misdemeanors over and over, and that's just not how it works. You also completely abandoned your original example, which is probably for the best given that your argument was "people shouldn't be punished for the crimes they chose to commit in certain circumstances", which is both absurd and unrelated to the original point.

I mean my original point was that the same punishment could be more severe for different people. I mean, I have no problem with seeing without glasses for example and if I put one on and you took it from me I’d be like “wtf bro” but if someone needed those they couldn’t see

That example has zero relevance to any of this. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. The point of criminal law is to punish those who break it-if that punishment would be extra bad for the person, that's all the more reason to not break the damn law. And if they choose to do so anyway that is nobody's fault but their own, and the law has no reason to bend over backwards to accommodate the poor decision making of criminals.

I am begging "most men are good, the small percent makes them look bad" proponents to spend ten minutes in an unmoderated male community, especially if porn is allowed in the community. Go where men hang out and listen to them in their rawest.

Fast track to misandry.

'

"Omg, yes! Like people who think "most black people are good, the small perceblnt makes then look bad". Like spend 10 minutes in a black neighborhood, especially if theyre light on crime, and watch them at their rawest.

Fast track to racism"

Except racism is real and misandry is not. Men are a privileged oppressor class and it's fair to notice reality. Many women are tired of not speaking up about the reality of men around them.

Would you be upset if I talked about oppression caused by racism?

"You can't have bigoted beliefs against privileged classes" said the person who likely wants to re-define the word bigotry so that it no longer means "discrimination against a demographic" in order to avoid being called a bigot for their bigoted beliefs.

Trump did it himself did he? Or did the corruption in the doj actually break down and thus the personal struggle sessions of these businesses ended. You know in order to extort them.

You like our government keeps fucking doing.

I love how we're supposed to consider them criminals and assume the investigations were justified based entirely on Bobby's say-so. Also, many big companies throw millions at both parties, just in case.

What I'm more worried about is the investigation into NYC's mayor getting dropped. That's really looking like Trump did it to fuck with the Democrats and/or get his cooperation with his illegal immigrant crackdown, neither of which are good things. They didn't say "we investigated him and found nothing", they just said "we want to stop investigating because [insert non-answer reason here]"
