Genuary 2025!

This is the Genuary Tumblr page. Genuary is a multifandom fanfic event focused on boosting the visibility of gen fic (i.e., fanfic where a romantic relationship is not the focus of the plot). It (formally) takes place during the last two weeks of January (for 2025, Jan 19-Feb 1). Genuary is an event for both new fic and boosting older works that have been overlooked. Instead, they clean fish and cook it in hot broth with a colorful slew of vegetables, serve it with steamed rice, and tea. They know that it is Colt’s favorite meal. When Colt asks them where they learned to cook this, they give him a generous lie. “I remember.”
Kite wants to take the hunter exam again in their new body. Colt wants to accompany them.

Showcasing another genfic as @genuary-fic-event continues!

In this Coburn family fic, Janet suffers a concussion and Caitlyn stays with her to look after her while she recovers. However, things get tense when Caitlyn’s anxiety and concern becomes more visible than it should, and she has to re-learn how to best support her mother and understand her needs.

Can easily be read fandom blind. Good fic if you like role reversal (daughter taking care of her mother), doctor as the patient, hurt/comfort and fics about healing from an injury.

This was one of my favorite fics to write because it’s always a good challenge to put Coburn in a vulnerable position and see how she responds (slight spoiler alert: she is not a good patient).

Despite being a huge gravity falls fan and rewatching the show yearly I've never written anything for it before, so to line up with both stanuary and @genuary-fic-event to do a Stan fic was great timing! The way Stan says he "didn't get much sleep that night" in his retelling of events in ATOTS was the most genuine he sounded during it all and it's always stuck with me every rewatch, so enjoy this short thing about it.

Summary: It's 1996, and Janet is returning to work after deciding to get sober and spending over a month in rehab. But things are different now both at County and in her personal life, and nothing seems to make sense. Where does she go from here? How will she rebuild her reputation and try to be a better mother after her husband asks for a divorce? And most importantly, how does she live with the fact that no matter what, she will always be an alcoholic?

Over the next 12 years (plus two), she'll try to figure it all out (with a little help from some friends) as life throws her more curveballs and seemingly endless change along the way.

For my first submission to @genuary-fic-event I chose my project from NaNoWriMo 2023, and my first fic of over 100,000 words. This fic spans 13 years from 1996 through 2009 (with an epilogue set in early 2010) and goes through the ups and downs Coburn faces at work and in her personal life while she goes through recovery.

While it is in the ER fandom and contains references to canon events and includes friendships with canon characters, you can read fandom blind if you’re so inclined, as there are also plenty of original characters and a lot of character development for Coburn that isn’t in the show.

TW: heavily reliant on themes of alcoholism, some references to depression
