Can't afford art school?

After seeing post like this πŸ‘‡

And this gem πŸ‘‡

As well as countless of others from the AI generator community. Just talking about how "inaccessible art" is, I decided why not show how wrong these guys are while also helping anyone who actually wants to learn.

Here is the first one ART TEACHERS! There are plenty online and in places like youtube.

πŸ“ΊHere is my list:

  1. Proko (Free)
  2. Marc Brunet (Free but he does have other classes for a cheap price. Use to work for Blizzard)
  3. Aaron Rutten (free)
  4. BoroCG (free)
  5. Jesse J. Jones (free, talks about animating)
  6. Jesus Conde (free)
  7. Mohammed Agbadi (free, he gives some advice in some videos and talks about art)
  8. Ross Draws (free, he does have other classes for a good price)
  9. SamDoesArts (free, gives good advice and critiques)
  10. Drawfee Show (free, they do give some good advice and great inspiration)
  11. The Art of Aaron Blaise ( useful tips for digital art and animation. Was an animator for Disney)
  12. Bobby Chiu ( useful tips and interviews with artist who are in the industry or making a living as artist)

Second part BOOKS, I have collected some books that have helped me and might help others.

πŸ“šHere is my list:

  1. The "how to draw manga" series produced by Graphic-sha. These are for manga artist but they give great advice and information.
  2. "Creating characters with personality" by Tom Bancroft. A great book that can help not just people who draw cartoons but also realistic ones. As it helps you with facial ques and how to make a character interesting.
  3. "Albinus on anatomy" by Robert Beverly Hale and Terence Coyle. Great book to help someone learn basic anatomy.
  4. "Artistic Anatomy" by Dr. Paul Richer and Robert Beverly Hale. A good book if you want to go further in-depth with anatomy.
  5. "Directing the story" by Francis Glebas. A good book if you want to Story board or make comics.
  6. "Animal Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger. A good book for if you want to draw animals or creatures.
  7. "Constructive Anatomy: with almost 500 illustrations" by George B. Bridgman. A great book to help you block out shadows in your figures and see them in a more 3 diamantine way.
  8. "Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and expand" by Burne Hogarth. A book that shows how to block out shapes and easily understand what you are looking out. When it comes to human subjects.
  9. "An Atlas of animal anatomy for artist" by W. Ellenberger and H. Dittrich and H. Baum. This is another good one for people who want to draw animals or creatures.
  10. Etherington Brothers, they make books and have a free blog with art tips.

As for Supplies, I recommend starting out cheap, buying Pencils and art paper at dollar tree or 5 below. For digital art, I recommend not starting with a screen art drawing tablet as they are more expensive.

For the Best art Tablet I recommend either Xp-pen, Bamboo or Huion. Some can range from about 40$ to the thousands.

πŸ’»As for art programs here is a list of Free to pay.

  1. Clip Studio paint ( you can choose to pay once or sub and get updates)
  2. Procreate ( pay once for $9.99)
  3. Blender (for 3D modules/sculpting, ect Free)
  4. PaintTool SAI (pay but has a 31 day free trail)
  5. Krita (Free)
  6. mypaint (free)
  7. FireAlpaca (free)
  8. Libresprite (free, for pixel art)

Those are the ones I can recall.

So do with this information as you will but as you can tell there are ways to learn how to become an artist, without breaking the bank. The only thing that might be stopping YOU from using any of these things, is YOU.

I have made time to learn to draw and many artist have too. Either in-between working two jobs or taking care of your family and a job or regular school and chores. YOU just have to take the time or use some time management, it really doesn't take long to practice for like an hour or less. YOU also don't have to do it every day, just once or three times a week is fine.

Hope this was helpful and have a great day.

Incase people missed this.

here's some more unsolicited adult advice as someone in her 30s who knows there are a lot of twenty somethings and teens that follow her: if you're trying to build a new habit you really want, and are struggling, you have to break it down to the smallest building block possible. If you're failing, you haven't thought small enough. I know it's possible to hear stories of people who just snapped into new life mode one day by "just deciding", but truly what's happening there is a confluence of events and experiences that force the brain into some sort of epiphany. You cannot will an epiphany. It'll never work. For most times of your life, you will need to build habits intentionally, and that means not working against yourself and to set micro goals. like laughably tiny goals. because once that easy tiny goal is met, you can build off it, tiny goal after tiny goal until you reach your big goal.

so for example, if you want to be a morning person that gets up at ass crack dawn so that you can work out, eat brekkie, shower, and get to work at a leisurely pace, and you're not that person because you will hit your snooze button 800 times, you have to get the big picture goal out of your head. think smaller. "I want to get up 15 minutes earlier than I normally do." If you can't do that, make it 5 minutes. "I want to cook breakfast every day" hell no too big. "I want to eat something, anything, before I leave the house" hell yeah, fantastic. When you go to the grocery store to make sure there are things in the house for breakfast, if you keep buying bagels and microwave sandwiches that you ignore, you gotta think smaller. SMALLER. What's something so easy to eat that you'll never say no to. Is it a yogurt? Is it a handful of grapes? Is it a hostess ho ho? is it hot cheetos? FORGET the big picture of the fantasy put-together woman preparing a full nutritious meal that you'd be proud to admit to. Think only of the smallest goal you can achieve. If you know you can't say no to an ice cream sandwich, put a ton of ice cream sandwiches in your freezer and have one for breakfast every day until it's so instilled in you that you gotta get up to eat something you can start diversifying.

It sounds like, from the lack of habit place, that must take forever. But really it doesn't take too long to form the habit once the discipline kicks in. the trick is that you have to give your brain something easy to become disciplined to. If it's too hard, think easier and smaller. No one has to know. Literally no one in the gd world has to know that for 4 weeks when you were 22 you had an ice cream sandwich for breakfast every day. who cares. If it gets you eating oatmeal with fresh fruit in a few months who cares. you did it, yay. smaller, easier. if you can't do it, think smaller and easier. smaller!! EASIER!!! You are not thinking smaller and easier enough. break your brain thinking how small and easy you can go. SMALLER. EVEN SMALLER, SIS.

No-Hit Boss Killer

I made this build about a month ago, but I don't think I've properly introduced frblr to THE CLOBBER.

Kill ANY boss in any venue on a cold start. Grind in lvl 25 venues hitless, forever. Yes, it works in any venue and any boss. Yes, it slots perfectly into a team of 133 STR general grinders. Yes, it costs less than 45g to build. No, you don't need another eliminate.

The Clobber Build

Guide Forum and discussion thread go into more detail.

This runs Discipline for the extra breath, Regenerate for general grinding, and Contuse so extra turns can be used to help your fighters skip a turn of Scratch.

For Bosses:

  • Put the Clobber at the end of your team.
  • For starting on bosses, have a fighter Haste the Clobber once. The Clobber should Meditate, Meditate, Clobber the boss.
  • Scratch with your fighters.
  • Clobber and Meditate between boss turns. Fighters Scratch and build up breath. Repeat.

For regular grinding:

  • Have two fighters Scratch and Elim two enemies. Clobber will stun the third.
  • The Clobber has an extra turn to stun 4-pack mobs. You can use that extra turn to heal off unlucky dodges, build breath back up, or whatever else. You will not have a problem in the Portal or Workshop ever again.
  • If you have extra breath or turns, use the Clobber to Contuse the remaining enemy twice. Two Contuses from the Clobber is equivalent to a Scratch from a 133, allowing the next dragon in the turn order to Eliminate the enemy immediately.

Tips for introducing more conflict into your Flight Rising lore (that aren't just "get a generic villain character")

  1. Your dragons should be wrong sometimes. It doesn't have to be all the time, but they should misunderstand things, lie (intentionally or unintentionally), lash out when they're stressed, or just flatout dislike someone for no reason. Everybody will make bad decisions, and it's an easy way to introduce conflict without needing a specific antagonist character.
  2. The world should be dangerous in some way. Think about your clan, and think about where your dragons would reasonably encounter some kind of danger. Is there a lot of crime in your clan? Is there a portion of your clan's territory that has a lot of hostile fauna? Is your clan currently clashing with another clan? Who knows, maybe the biggest danger is getting humiliated at the PTA bake sale, but try to think deeply on this. Once you know what places are dangerous, you can start thinking of how your clan deals with that danger.
  3. A 100% approval rating government doesn't exist. The larger your clan, the more likely that there's dragons who disagree in some way, shape, or form with how the clan's being run. Maybe you've got an Anarcho-Capitalist Lightning clan with a small sect of Eco-Socialists that dislike the current rulers. Maybe you've got a tight-knit family unit but there's a dragon who doesn't agree with how chores are being divvied up. Maybe you've got a monarchy but, oops, you've got one dragon who REALLY disagrees with the concept of a monarchy!
  4. Quick conflict is easy, prolonged plot is interesting. A conflict that can be resolved in 2 hours has a lot less narrative weight (typically) compared to a plot that takes 2 weeks to resolve. Err on the side of letting things fester and intensify if you want the juiciest conflict.
  5. Your dragons should have wants just like anyone else, and those wants should conflict. A highly ambitious dragon joining a clan with well-established authorities is going to feel stifled by their inability to rise through the ranks. What happens when multiple dragons are courting the same dragon? What happens when multiple dragons want the same den location? Two dragons with deeply opposed desires can be the cornerstone of a lot of great lore.
  6. Sometimes bad things happen for no reason. Natural disasters, plagues, sudden global conflicts (ex: Luminax), all of these things can be introduced quickly to churn up some conflict. Be careful to rely too heavily on this though, as it can erode away at your dragons narrative agency and make things feel grimdark (unless that's what you're going for)
  7. Sometimes dragons are just jerks. People in real life are occasionally just mean, and there's no reason to say that your dragons can't just be a bit mean too. Schoolyard bullies, prissy Karens, workplace lunch-thieves, people who cut in line, etc. Don't be afraid to make some of your dragons just a bit mean, or annoying, or frustrating! In fact, I'd argue most dragons should have at least one trait that could potentially drive another dragon up the wall.

SO! here it is! The roof comes off with the rafters attached; the floor for the 'ground' level is also removable--remember that this is designed to sit in about 3 inches of litter. The windows are inset so that after this is fired, I can cut and glue in little panes of stained glass.

if you are in or around los angeles and the fires and evacuation alerts have not yet reached you, take pictures of where you live. as many as you can. inside and outside if possible. try to take CLEAR pictures of serial numbers, product names, appliances, expensive stuff especially. these pictures will help you get major things replaced exactly instead of just "a TV".

stay safe. remember to bring critical paperwork when evacuating.

hey so i had a horrible idea

I wanted to do this a couple days earlier but didn't have time / wasn't at home until now, so if someone's already done this: oops

anyway: quick cheat sheet of which venues drop which items, ft a red background for items needed for a chest trade. It's not the greatest resolution, it's pretty messy, but should do the job for the next week and a bit

also below the cut is an image where the venues are ranked in order of chests dropped/hour, based on Maki's festival guide and the linked spreadsheet. Pardon the handwriting, I did not feel like fighting with CSP's text tools

i would be a kittypet all the way in the warrior cats universe. if i heard a bunch of guys were in the woods killing each other for survival and they think i'm the lame one for getting mediocre banquets i would be like you guys are stupidd and then when the thunderclan medicine cat comes by my fenced lot to pick yarrow i would be like what are doing and shes like medicine so my clanmates don't die and i'm like wow you guys really have it that rough. and she keeps encountering me and one day i'm like why don't you come inside there's plenty of kibble and she averts her eyes shyly and is like ...no that would be against starclan and i'd go To have a little kibble? and she's like You know what i mean. and i do. 5 moons later she is getting adopted by my people and visions of her ancestors still haunt her and she is from time to time like Did I do the right thing...? how could i be so selfish...? and i'm like my toy mouse squeaks

I am very much open to flight rising commissions. I will draw your dragons, fat or otherwise, for 500g.

I've decided fat dragons get a discount though.

3 girls eating a burger

are you going to have the pickle? no, you can have the pickle

can i have a bite of the burger? you can have a bite of the burger. it is for you

we can carry 10-50 times our body weight because we are girls. we are carrying the burger

a few more bites and they hoist it down the hill. there are thousands more girls waiting to enjoy the burger!
