i have SO MUCH fondness for ryan and shane and think overall that both ghost files and mystery files are good, but i think its funny people are saying they dont get that ppl watch them for the chemistry and thats whats killing it... that last anon is right, they clearly do and have leaned into being unhinged a lil too much lol, like there's no contrast against their normal, genuine selves anymore. i believe they can do rly good things tho and as long as the content is fun i'll keep watching!

like they've become caricatures of themselves !! yes yes

almost like they need the chemistry to sell the show but don't want it to be so good that people keep writing gd fanfic about them lmaooo I am guilty as sin ofc

and yes like ryan has an amazing film degree and such a passion for creating media content, and shane is truly hilarious, they (and their team) could do so much great stuff!

When they did that stupid episode in the escape room and tried to justify what was blatant sponcon by saying there were ghosts in the ball pit and Ryan was pretending to be scared of a plastic skeleton...all of that could've been avoided with one less investment in a gadget with flashing lights.

there's an ESCAPE ROOM EPISODE?!

I will say I’m right there with you about the spirit (hehe) of the show being off. I also think it ties largely into the whole “goodbye” situation in that Ghost Files has turned into an actual ghost hunting show when the vast majority of the audience is just there for the goofs. Like, cool, Ryan got a new toy that’ll take up even more screen time and need a whole section in every episode to justify its expense. Great. Awesome. I love watching the rng machine beep. I care so much about internet man proving ghosts are real. Banter? Comedy? Jokes? Naw who would every want that -_-

There’s such a fundamental misunderstanding from them on why people watch their content and in their efforts to “upgrade” and become “tv quality” they’ve lost a lot of their charm. A “Goat Man’s Bridge” episode could never exist on Ghost Files

(hehe)

this is soooo true. I find myself rewatching bfu to this day but idk if I've ever rewatched a watcher ghost files ep? do not even get me started on how disappointed I was by the return to sallie house

they were at the top of their game whilst at buzzfeed and I almost wonder if it's because they had to rely on their humour/chemistry instead of all the tech and graphics
