John pressed himself closer suddenly. โWhat the hell was that? Acting like some immature childโwhy were you encouraging him?!โ He demanded. Levi turned to meet his gaze. He could only meet it for a moment before his gaze went down. โI swear, sometimes it's like I agreed to marry a child with the way you act! Out of all things, passing notes?! It's like you want to embarrass me!โ John hissed out. He paused for a moment. His fingers found their way under Leviโs chin and tilted it up. He searched his features for a moment. โAre you listening?โ His tone was softer than before. Levi felt himself shrink a little. John sighed; one of his fingers brushed against the scar on his forehead. โOf course. Of course.โ He whispered. Shortly after, he pulled himself away and climbed out of the car.
Levi finally breathed when he was gone. That really worked? He thought John would see right through the faking. His head was really messed up, though. Whoever bashed his head did a number on him truly. He would have โflare-upsโโasโ John called themโwhenever he was going through something. Usually, his ears stopped working, but not like he was deaf. He could hear people talking, but their words wouldn't make any sense, though. He had trouble speaking as well. And lord, the headaches were painful. John always helped him through it, his touch always gentle. Why did he walk away then? Surely a punishment or something. His nails dug into his skin as he gazed outside. John was speaking with a group of other followers. A toothy grin plastered on his face as he did. Levi couldn't help but give a wobbly smile at that. Maybe he wasn't that upset. Maybe he would come back and give him what he needed.
He flickered his eyes up as he saw Jacob exit the church with his son tucked under his arm. Cal was thrashing around in the hold. He looked rabid as he squirmed and kicked. His father didn't seem that fazed about it or when people looked. Levi smiled in spite of himself. The kid was funny sometimes. His smile dropped when he saw that lapdog exit. The Gospel. He had no clue what his name was. His gaze went down to his feet as he turned his body away. Levi never knew what that guy's deal was; he always had it out for him. John never believed him when he tried to say something, though. He just knew that the Gospel was a favorite, especially by Joseph, and always ready to please lapdog. Annoying son of a bitch.
John came back shortly after. He let out a long sigh as his body slumped against the seat. His gaze was still firm, but a little more gentle now. โBetter?โ He questioned. Levi nodded. โGood.โ
