It's an official petition through the Australian Government's e-petition page, which means if it gets enough signatures, it will be tabled in government.

You do have to be an Australian citizen to sign it, BUT!!! PLEASE REBLOG THIS EVEN IF YOURE NOT, because these kind of things have a roll-on effect, and if Australia legislates LED headlights, then other countries may follow.

FYI, the petition asks only for your name and email, and once you've clicked the sign button, they'll send you an email to confirm your signature --- you need to click the confirmation link in the email to have your signature counted.

hi y’all i just wanted to put you onto this fundraiser for the buffalo nations grasslands alliance. they’re trying to recoup some of the funds for black-footed ferret conservation on tribal grounds that the trump/musk administration has frozen, which is impacting not only the conservation efforts themselves but the livelihoods of the people working on them. the frozen grant is 1.1 million but this fundraiser has a goal of 50,000.

the fundraiser has 24 days left and has only reached 2% of its goal with 11 donations. black-footed ferrets are an endangered lazarus taxon that was thought to be extinct from 1979-1981 before being rediscovered by accident. they’re a miracle of conservation and it would be horrible to lose them for good, not to mention (again) the impact of people working with these animals losing their jobs which is outlined in the fundraiser link. indigenous-led conservation efforts are extremely important for a wide variety of reasons and as someone in the zoology area i feel obligated to share this fundraiser to contribute to those efforts.

i know that things are hard right now and there’s a lot of people and organizations all across the world that need help, so don’t feel pressured BUT if you have extra money and you can contribute to this fundraiser or share it with people who can that would be great.

okay so I'm having a debate with my flatmates

are these all different things and if so what do you call them

"wow look at this crazy sign from Australia warning about dangerous animals" and then the sign is basically just "do not corner and harass wild animals"

certainly part of the issue is the way ppl in Australia feed into it and try and make signs funnier and over exaggerate stuff in an often unhelpful way. but "this is a wild animal. if you harass a wild animal it might bite or scratch you" is basically universally applicable across the world with the vast majority of animals

"can you believe quokkas are so cute but they'll bite you if you anger them?" well you see they're wild animals who humans just so happen to think look cute. it's not on purpose and does not magically make it ok to harass and bother a wild animal. if you harass a wild animal it might bite or scratch you

HE BROKE THE RECORD

Senator Cory Booker just broke the all-time record for the longest Senate floor speech, speaking for over 24 hours without a pause (no food, no bathroom breaks, only water to drink) as a protest against Trump and Musk and what they're doing.

The previous record was set in 1957, when Strom Thurmond spoke for 24 hours and 18 minutes protesting the Civil Rights Act.

Senator Booker has blown past that record, currently at 25 hours and still speaking as of 8 pm local time. Respect.

people have already talked about this but there is something so depressing about like....having a female character who's suffered unimaginable trauma and now her only character trait is Strong. she's so Strong and Powerful and that means she has Agency, right? right?

and like, well, no, not in and of itself??? like, you gave her trauma, DO something with it. don't just pay it lip service but then go "and now she's okay because she's so Strong and Can Fight or whatever". what even IS strength. are people who don't survive traumatic situations automatically weak by this logic? what are we doing here
