Animation breakdown from “Strange Technology”

Some more stuff from “Strange Technology.”  Stages of animation for a transformation/mutation where this creature barfs up a new head for itself! Gross!

Concept art:

Rough animation:

Clean line animation:

Full color animation:

Bonus other dude walkin around:

The deadline was tight and things were getting a bit bonkers, so shout out to @cathywhut for lending me a much-needed last-minute hand with coloring! And if you spot any coloring errors/gaps in the video, those were probably me. (Trust me, they’re in there, I’ve caught them. It’s like playing Where’s Waldo but not fun).

I’m moving!

Trying to consolidate blogs, so if you’d still like to follow me, check me out at griffgryph.tumblr.com ~! This blog will be going private soon! Thanks yall!

Last weekend, Adult Swim premiered a music video I did the animation for!  It’s a live-action and cartoon hybrid, featuring friendly little characters like this guy:

Check out the whole video here (viewer discretion is advised):

The song is called “Strange Technology,” by L’Orange and Mr. Lif, featuring Akrobatik and Gonjasufi. It’s from the album The Life and Death of Scenery, which is some smooth listenins, so check that out too. Free to listen here:  http://www.adultswim.com/music/lifeanddeath/

Crash Bandicoot! Where ya been??

Been gettin nostalgic and replaying that good ol’ “original trilogy” of Naughty Dog games on muh PS1. Also discovered the old concept art for the games by Charles Zembillas - really awesome, expressive, cartoony stuff (Zembillas’s artwork below):

Not to mention just seeing that recently revealed cartoon intro/pitch/pilot…

Its interesting to look back at Crash in the context of the mid-90′s - if I had been an older kid then, I wonder if I would’ve scoffed at Sony’s efforts to emulate the “mascottery” of Nintendo and Sega. Looking at it now, it seems a bit blatant.  But I didn’t know the difference, and to this day I’ve never played through a whole Mario or Sonic game…blashpemy, I know.

I think Crash had something in his own right though, despite the circumstances of warring consoles. Naughty Dog’s efforts definitely feel genuine when I play the old games…and there’s something about the whole aesthetic and attitude that remains inspiring to me.

Sorry to turn this into a blog post. Crash needs some lovin tho.

It’s Gawdzilluh.

I was listening to the score of Godzilla (2014) while drawing in Photoshop, so I felt inspired to draw Godzilla. Then I drew another pose for him, and realized I wanted to animate him, but I had already started in Photoshop instead of Toon Boom, but I hadn’t animated in Photoshop before, but then I figured I’d try, and then I found out it wasn’t that hard, and exporting it as a gif was easier than I thought too…and yeah, here’s this rough animation. I don’t know if I’ll ever clean it up, but I like it.

I’ve only seen the original from 1954 and the 1998 one and this new one, so I’m not a ~true fan~ but I do really like giant lizard dinosaurs a lot I think.

Waiting impatiently for that Pacific Rim animated series….

Workin on drawing those French girls. Note: don’t know that the model was actually French but she looked kinda like La Roux who I think is French so it works #art #figuredrawing #sketch #butt #mohawk

Some sketches of monsters and robots and creatures and whatnot
