keep waiting for the heartbreak music | buck/eddie | ~30k (1/2)

The traffic moves. Buck contemplates pulling over on the side of the road and running off into the distance.
This is none of his fucking business, and he doesn't understand why the memory of Eddie looking up at this man makes him feel like there's a ball of snakes writhing in his stomach, why his face is burning.
“I,” Eddie says, and in his periphery, Buck catches him stretching his legs out in the footwell, “wasn't interested.”
Buck swallows his first response, which is didn't look like it, because he's an asshole on a good day, but he's not that bad.
It's okay for Eddie to be interested. It's okay for him to date, and Buck wants that for him, except—
or: christopher is becoming his own person, eddie doesn't want to date until he suddenly does, buck is just trying to get his best friend out of the house, and the whole shivering, chest-aching-knees-knocking thing that keeps happening to him whenever eddie smiles real wide is nothing to worry about.

chapter one: maybe if i'd reined it in (13k) chapter two: baby, you were meant to follow me

it has officially been a year since i first haunted the buddie ao3 tag! half a million words later, i wanted to write something to celebrate, and what better way to celebrate than buck pining. thank you so much to everyone who's read my silly little words over the past year and so very generously welcomed me into the fandom. here's to another year of being unhinged about the gay firefighters 💕

tags under the cut (interact with this post to be added or let me know if you'd like to be removed 💖)

buck and eddie who both seemingly need/desire to be in constant communication with each other are going to be on cloud 9 when they end up living together and realize that they don’t have to hang up the phone or pause their conversation. it’ll be like they’re at work, but better because there’s no alarm to interrupt them. and then. they’ll realize that there’s no way in hell that they can ever go back to a life where they’re not actively living on top of each other. :)

cannot stop thinking about chris's shy hopeful "you'll be my dad again?" like goddddd

so okay. he went with his grandparents to get some space after a trauma. that's probably actually helpful at first. but then.. weeks start to go by and his dad hasn't come to get him or told chris he needs to come home. and then he starts to get inundated with snide little comments from his grandparents (who he also loves!!) insinuating eddie wasn't/couldn't be a good dad to him, which chris then interprets as them saying eddie doesn't want to be his dad anymore. which, in chris's mind is definitely a thing that happens sometimes right? like sometimes your mom decides she doesn't wanna be your mom anymore and just leaves in the middle of the fucking night. so here's this fourteen year-old thinking he literally drove yet another parent away and his grandparents aren't doing a fucking thing to dissuade him from that notion, in fact they're actively encouraging it!!!! like just when i thought i couldn't hate them any more than i already did..

No bald option, you have to pick.

I skipped some, like gay!Eddie, that I thought would overshadow everything else; a few others that have died on screen since I first had the idea of this poll (RIP Ravi thinking Buddie are divorced exes and passenger princess Eddie), some I consider proven already (Maddie knows) as well as some I personally don't like (firehouse bet).

Okay but for real, Deadline isn't some fandom website or blog. The person who wrote the 9-1-1 renewal story isn't a reporter in the fandom trenches.

Putting "The will they, won’t they between Stark’s Buck and Guzman’s Eddie continues, complicating things when the latter decides to move to Texas to be closer to his son." was likely something pulled directly from a press release from ABC and not the reporter editorializing or "pushing the buddie agenda". In fact, as far as I can tell, that reporter last wrote out 9-1-1 in 2024 after the tragic death of a crew member.

This isn't some Buddie friendly reporter from Pink News or even Entertainment Tonight, this is Deadline.

it is unbelievably funny to crash out over an extremely legitimate entertainment news source printing something that is one thousand percent sanctioned (on account of deadline hollywood being an extremely legitimate entertainment news source) as if it was some twitter rando lying or pushing their ship agenda when................well no. i shan't say
